John 14

John 14

John 14:1   Let not your heart be troubled: ye believe in God, believe also in me. 14:2 In my Father’s house are many mansions: if it were not so, I would have told you. I go to prepare a place for you. 14:3 And if I go and prepare a place for you, I will come again, and receive you unto myself; that where I am, there ye may be also. 14:4 And whither I go ye know, and the way ye know.

Jesus says that he is going on ahead to prepare offices in the Kingdom for his disciples, promising to return and resurrect the faithful chosen and change them to spirit, so that we may be with him and work with him to bring in the larger main harvest.

He reminds them that he must first go to God the Father [The Wave Offering] and that they/we know the way to God the Father, which is through the Door of Christ using the keys of sincere repentance and a firm commitment and diligent effort to live by every Word of God and to “Go and sin no more”.

John 10:9 I am the door: by me if any man enter in, he shall be saved, and shall go in and out, and find pasture.

1 Timothy 2:5 For there is one God, and one Mediator between God and men, the man Christ Jesus;

Remember that Christ GAVE UP HIS GLORY to become flesh; and that while Christ was in the flesh the ONLY God existing as God was God the Father!

For this reason Christ prayed that his original glory should be reinstated by God the Father.

Jesus had given up his God-ship to be made flesh; and to be tempted of the devil in all things: As a demonstration that a man could overcome and keep the commandments perfectly through the indwelling Spirit of God.

Yes, Jesus Christ could have very easily failed in his mission, IF he had allowed himself to be distracted or to lose sight of God the Father and compromise with his Father’s law just once.

There is only ONE Mediator between men and God the Father: Our eternal High Priest: Jesus Christ!

Understand that the abomination of the final false prophet will teach that ALL religions are just different paths to the same God, and exalt himself as mankind’s ultimate moral authority!

The job of the two prophets is to boldly declare that there is ONLY ONE Mediator between men and God the Father; and only ONE DOOR TO SALVATION: Our High Priest Jesus Christ!

To boldly declare a message of warning and repentance; to a zealous faithful keeping of the Word of God the Father through the power of Christ The Mighty Over-Comer, dwelling within us!

John 17:5 And now, O Father, glorify thou me with thine own self with the glory which I had with thee before the world was.

John 14:5 Thomas saith unto him, Lord, we know not whither thou goest; and how can we know the way? 14:6 Jesus saith unto him, I am the way, the truth, and the life: no man cometh unto the Father, but by me.

Here we have Jesus Christ himself defining that the ONLY way to God the Father and eternal life is through Jesus Christ, our High Priest; who is the ONLY Mediator between man and God the Father!

14:7 If ye had known me, ye should have known my Father also: and from henceforth ye know him, and have seen him. 14:8 Philip saith unto him, Lord, shew us the Father, and it sufficeth us.

14:9 Jesus saith unto him, Have I been so long time with you, and yet hast thou not known me, Philip? he that hath seen me hath seen the Father; and how sayest thou then, Shew us the Father? 14:10 Believest thou not that I am in the Father, and the Father in me? the words that I speak unto you I speak not of myself: but the Father that dwelleth in me, he doeth the works.

Jesus Christ did not dare teach anything of his own while in the flesh; he was in TOTAL UNITY with God the Father; in mind and spirit: as we are supposed to become through internalizing Jesus Christ as the Unleavened Bread of Life.

We are to teach the truth of God the Father and not to teach our own ways, assumptions and traditions.

How is it that many religious leaders dare to teach compromise with the Father’s Word and tolerance for the sin that God despises because it destroys his children?

14:11 Believe me that I am in the Father, and the Father in me: or else believe me for the very works’ sake.

Believe it!   God the Father and the Son are TOTALLY UNITED AS ONE!  The Word of God is also one whole!

Our calling is NOT to be united with every person, or every teaching of men: Our calling is to become united with God the Father, as Christ is united with God the Father!

That is the foundation of real unity; standing on that foundation we will also become united with like-minded persons, who are also united with God!

NEVER tolerate sin for the sake of unity with sinful men!

Always seek TOTAL UNITY with God the Father through the indwelling of the Son!

John 14:12 Verily, verily, I say unto you, He that believeth on me, the works that I do shall he do also; and greater works than these shall he do; because I go unto my Father. 14:13 And whatsoever ye shall ask in my name, that will I do, that the Father may be glorified in the Son. 14:14 If ye shall ask any thing in my name, I will do it.

14:15 If ye love me, keep my commandments.  [Which is the WHOLE WORD of GOD and anything that is asked of us by God!]

The Holy Spirit will be given to those who KEEP God’s commandments; who live by every Word of God!

What we need will be provided by God if we seek to enter his kingdom by keeping and internalizing God’s Word!  If it is not given in this life, it will be given later with the resurrection to eternal life.  God will not give eternal life to those who resist keeping God’s Word or those who compromise with God’s Word and tolerate sin.

1 John 3:22 And whatsoever we ask, we receive of him, because we keep his commandments, and do those things that are pleasing in his sight.

God’s Spirit is the Spirit of truth [God’s word is Truth]; and if we reject truth for our own ways, the Spirit of God will leave us!

John 14:16 And I will pray the Father, and he shall give you another Comforter, that he may abide with you for ever; 14:17 Even the Spirit of truth; whom the world cannot receive, because it seeth him not, neither knoweth him: but ye know him; for he dwelleth with you, and shall be in you. 14:18 I will not leave you comfortless: I will come to you.

God’s Spirit was working with the disciples, but was not yet dwelling in them.  It was  given to them after Christ had been resurrected to spirit and accepted by God the Father as the Wave Offering for us to become the High Priest of the New Covenant.

14:19 Yet a little while, and the world seeth me no more; but ye see me: because I live, ye shall live also.

While he is ascended into heaven we cannot see Christ with our eyes; yet we shall see him through his words, and because he lives and will dwell in us if we keep his Word; we have life eternal if we endure to the end and overcome as he overcame.

14:20 At that day ye shall know that I am in my Father, and ye in me, and I in you. 14:21 He that hath my commandments, and keepeth them, he it is that loveth me: and he that loveth me shall be loved of my Father, and I will love him, and will manifest myself to him.

We can know when Christ is dwelling in someone, because they will be doing what Christ did!  They will be living by every Word of God with intense exuberant passion!

Christ will be keeping his Father’s commandments in us, as he has always done; and therefore Christ will be manifested in us by our uncompromising Christ-like zeal to live by every Word of God.

14:22 Judas saith unto him, not Iscariot, Lord, how is it that thou wilt manifest thyself unto us, and not unto the world?

Those who do not keep the words of Christ are NOT of Christ: No matter how many fine arguments they make or how many tears they shed to try to entrap us into acting on emotion, contrary to the Commandments and Teachings of Jesus Christ!

14:23 Jesus answered and said unto him, If a man love me, he will keep my words: and my Father will love him, and we will come unto him, and make our abode with him.

Brethren, have we as leaders, organizations and as brethren; kept the words and commandments of God the Father and of Jesus Christ?  Absolutely NOT!  We even condemn and reject those who do!

The Holy Spirit is the Spirit of BOTH God the Father and of Jesus Christ; they will BOTH come to dwell with us if we are willing to follow their lead and seek diligently to become like them!  This “Spirit” is their very nature; which nature of God we are to internalize and make our very own nature!

Those who do not KEEP the words of Christ do NOT love HIM; no matter what they claim.

14:24 He that loveth me not, keepeth not my sayings: and the word which ye hear [from Christ]  is not mine, but the Father’s which sent me.

Those who do not keep the sayings and follow the example of Christ: DO NOT LOVE OR KNOW CHRIST; NEITHER DO THEY KNOW OR LOVE GOD THE FATHER!  This is true, no matter how much they protest that they love Jesus.

1 John 2:3 And hereby we do know that we know him, if we keep his commandments. 2:4 He that saith, I know him, and keepeth not his commandments, is a liar, and the truth is not in him. 2:5 But whoso keepeth his word, in him verily is the love of God perfected: hereby know we that we are in him. 2:6 He that saith he abideth in him ought himself also so to walk [live], even as he walked [as Christ lived].

John 14:25 These things have I spoken unto you, being yet present with you. 14:26 But the Comforter, which is the Holy Ghost, whom the Father will send in my name, he shall teach you all things [the whole word of God], and bring all things to your remembrance, whatsoever I have said unto you.

God’s Spirit will bring Christ’s words to remembrance in us, and shall give us a good understanding of the Word of God; IF we live by every Word of God.

God is NOT divided against himself and his nature will NOT dwell with a sinful nature.  If we compromise with God’s commandments and tolerate sin; we quench God’s Spirit and it will leave us.

We MUST follow where God’s \Spirit leads; we MUST act on what we learn and we must become diligent DOERS of all the whole Word of God.

Test the spirits whether they are from God.  How do we know that a spirit is from God?  Because God is not divided against himself; God’s Spirit will lead and empower us to KEEP the whole Word of God!

Anyone who teaches to compromise with God’s Word; or who teaches that a zealous man is a Pharisee; or who teaches to tolerate unrepentant sin, and refuses to rebuke sin; or any group or man that will not preach the Gospel of warning and repentance that Christ has commanded us to preach, is NOT OF GOD and is NOT OF JESUS CHRIST!

14:27 Peace I leave with you, my peace I give unto you: not as the world giveth, give I unto you. Let not your heart be troubled, neither let it be afraid.

Peace is a fruit of God’s Spirit, the fruit of FAITH: We know that we can trust and rely on the Word and promises of God; which are eternal life for all those who keep the Word of God and become ONE in FULL UNITY with God the Father and Christ; and this sure knowledge brings true peace of mind!

14:28 Ye have heard how I said unto you, I go away, and come again unto you. If ye loved me, ye would rejoice, because I said, I go unto the Father: for my Father is greater than I. 14:29 And now I have told you before it come to pass, that, when it is come to pass, ye might believe. 14:30 Hereafter I will not talk much with you: for the prince of this world cometh, and hath nothing in me.

The disciples did not yet understand that the time had come that he would be sacrificed for the sins of the world.

14:31 But that the world may know that I love the Father; and as the Father gave me commandment, even so I do. Arise, let us go hence.

Christ taught and did whatever God the Father had directed and inspired him to teach and do. Jesus Christ loved God the Father and the Father’s law and will. He did NOT compromise with that law, neither did he tolerate unrepentant sin, but boldly rebuked sinners; including the religious establishment leaders of his day.

  1. In John 14 : 12 Jesus said “Verily, verily, I say unto you. He that believeth in me, the works that I do shall he do also; and greater works than these shall he do; because I go unto my Father. ” My question is : Has anyone done greater works than Jesus Christ ? Is this speaking of miracles or proclaiming the gospel or feeding the Flock – which ? James if you can help explain. Thanks.

Personally, and this is my personal opinion; I believe that Jesus was prophesying about the resurrection to spirit and how those changed to spirit would be greater than those in the flesh; Jesus himself prophesying that his works while in the flesh would be surpassed by those changed to spirit [including himself when changed to spirit]. James

  2. Thank you James. I humbly invite anybody willing to come on board in answering this question. I’ve been thinking of this for long. I will let you know what I think of your answer after others put in their comments. Thanks for your time.

  3. It refers to what the church members would do over time: raise the dead, heal the sick, repel fire (as Polycrates did), cast out demons, preach boldly and die on crosses while giving testimonies, etc. Look at what the two witnesses in Revelation will do. Christ isn’t jealous when others do greater works than Him because He is the One doing the works THROUGH them, just as the Father isn’t ashamed of calling His son a “god”. (Heb 1:8) This is how the Father is glorified. Brethren, let’s get the petty jealousies, envyings, rivalries and pride out of our system. The humble get the higher positions in the Kingdom for a reason.

  4. Kaya, you asked: “Has anyone done greater works than Jesus Christ ?”

Jesus Christ took no credit for the works performed in/by Him.

I found it interesting you cited John 14 where verse 10 explains how God the Father does the works in Jesus:

“Believest thou not that I am in the Father, and THE FATHER IN me? the words that I speak unto you I speak not of myself: but THE FATHER that dwelleth IN me, HE DOETH THE WORKS.”

A verse in the book of Corinthians may help make this clearer:

“But to us there is but ONE GOD, THE FATHER, OF WHOM are all things, and we in him; and one Lord Jesus Christ, BY WHOM are all things, and we by him.” I Corinthians 8:6

    John

  5. This question brings to mind Luke 7:28 when the Christ calls John the Baptist the greatest prophet.
Jesus was born of a woman and made so many prophesies during his short life yet he called John the greatest of all. I wonder what criteria Jesus uses?

  6. Rolf, you asked: “I wonder what criteria Jesus uses?”

There may be several things for criteria; however, for one thing, Jesus was not speaking about His day and age. The context is speaking about a future time. He was speaking about a time after the Kingdom of God has been established.

Also, of course, for anyone to have been resurrected then, to live again, is going to be a big deal. John the Baptist is currently a dead man. A dead man who will live again.

    John

Rolf was focusing on Jesus calling John the greatest of the prophets, not on the resurrection aspect of the sentence. We know that the resurrected to spirit will be greater than the flesh who have not yet made it; but Rolf’s point was to ask why John was the greatest of the physical prophets. James
