A warm welcome to all our guests!
TheShiningLight blog focuses on providing COG news and studying the Bible chapter by chapter on an almost daily basis. Once a book has been completed, the daily studies are compiled and published as a whole book study at our God Our Light site.
The God Our Light site focuses on daily news, prophecy and whole book Bible Studies, but carries very little COG News.
Since last October I have been busy re-writing and updating our studies. At present the Gospels and Acts as well as the Epistles from Romans to second Peter updates have been completed. The Feast of Trumpets article has been deleted and will be replaced by a brand new article for Trumpets this year. You will find the category links on the side bar.
We also offer the Glorious Living Newsletter which focuses on subject Bible Studies. To receive your free subscription, please send your request to Constance at email@example.com
Please visit our AShiningLight site to see reprints of many of these newsletters along with our 2014 Fall Festivals material. Please note that all article content has been edited by me.
2 Peter 3
Peter states that the very purpose of his epistles is to stir up the brethren to remember the scriptures. Through history and in this latter day we too are to be stirred up to remember the scriptures written by the prophets and the apostles, and not to only just remember the scriptures but to be enthusiastic “Doers of the Word”
2 Pet 3:1 This second epistle, beloved, I now write unto you; in both which I stir up your pure minds by way of remembrance: 3:2 That ye may be mindful of the words which were spoken before by the holy prophets, and of the commandment of us the apostles of the Lord and Saviour:
Today many have begun to think that “My Lord delays his coming” in the world and also in the Ekklesia. As Jesus himself warned us: those who think such things and slack away from zealous godliness shall be rejected by him, Mat 24: 48.
Today many in the Ekklesia scoff at those who are zealous for God, as the worldly scoff at the warnings of correction and Christ’s coming.
3:3 Knowing this first, that there shall come in the last days scoffers, walking after their own lusts, 3:4 And saying, Where is the promise of his coming? for since the fathers fell asleep, all things continue as they were from the beginning of the creation.
Because of the many false teachers and false prophets in today’s church of God, there is a spirit of unbelief in the Ekklesia, people cannot be bothered with any serious study and just play “follow the Elder”. yet God says:
Amos 3:7 Surely the Lord God will do nothing, but he revealeth his secret unto his servants the prophets.
We should carefully certainly TEST all such things by the Word of God; by checking to see if the person is zealous and faithful to God and all of his commandments, checking what is taught by the whole Word of God and by following the advice of Gamaliel, waiting patiently to see whether such proclamations come to pass.
The proof of a prophet or of any teacher or man of God, is that his words MUST be consistent with God’s Word, including all of the Biblical prophets and biblical apostles.
The worldly closes its eyes to the obvious and is willingly ignorant of God; just like the church of God closes its eyes to the truth and Word of God, being willingly ignorant and desiring to follow corporate idols and the false traditions of men.
3:5 For this they willingly are ignorant of, that by the word of God the heavens were of old, and the earth standing out of the water and in the water: 3:6 Whereby the world that then was, being overflowed with water, perished: 3:7 But the heavens and the earth, which are now, by the same word are kept in store, reserved unto fire against the day of judgment and perdition of ungodly men.
People who scoff at the prophets are scoffing at over one third of the Christ breathed Word of God and will be judged
3:8 But, beloved, be not ignorant of this one thing, that one day is with the Lord as a thousand years, and a thousand years as one day.
Here we have a profound key to unlock much prophecy including the Feast days. A key that is rejected by all the church of God groups today; who try to teach that seven days is as one thousand years, when they give their false take on the Feast of Tabernacles.
No, one day is as ONE thousand years; and seven days is NOT equal to one thousand years; therefore seven days MUST refer to either just seven days, or to SEVEN thousand years. There is NO WAY that the Feast of Tabernacles could refer to a one thousand year millennium!
This FALSE teaching has been driven into the minds of people for generations and has prevented an understanding of the true meaning of the Festivals and much prophecy.
Many don’t realize that what is a very long period of time to man, is a very short period of time with God. And God will fulfill his Word. He will keep his promises. These things are coming and are now at the door!
All Scripture must fit together. There are many who say the Seven Day Feast of Tabernacles represents a thousand year millennium. And yet what does Peter say here? One day is with the Lord as a thousand years, and a thousand years is as one day.
How could the Seven Day Feast of Tabernacles picture one thousand years? According to Scripture, it must picture 7,000 years or it must have nothing whatsoever to do with years.
According to God’s Word, the Seven Day Feast of Tabernacles pictures 7,000 years. It does not picture any one thousand year millennium. The same thing is true of the Feast of Unleavened Bread and the seven day week!. We know because God inspired Peter to say so.

3:9 The Lord is not slack concerning his promise, as some men count slackness; but is longsuffering to us-ward, not willing that any should perish, but that all should come to repentance.
1 Thes 5:1 But of the times and the seasons, brethren, ye have no need that I write unto you.
2 For yourselves know perfectly that the day of the Lord so cometh as a thief in the night.
3 For when they shall say, Peace and safety; then sudden destruction cometh upon them, as travail upon a woman with child; and they shall not escape.
4 But ye, brethren, are not in darkness, that that day should overtake you as a thief.
5 Ye are all the children of light, and the children of the day: we are not of the night, nor of darkness.
6 Therefore let us not sleep, as do others; but let us watch and be sober.
7 For they that sleep sleep in the night; and they that be drunken are drunken in the night.
8 But let us, who are of the day, be sober, putting on the breastplate of faith and love; and for an helmet, the hope of salvation.
9 For God hath not appointed us to wrath, but to obtain salvation by our Lord Jesus Christ,
Peter here speaks of the coming of Christ as being a surprise to the wicked; but the coming of Christ will not be a surprise for the godly who are watching for him and are the children of Light of God!
2 Pet 3:10 But the day of the Lord will come as a thief in the night; . . .
Here Peter is talking about the end of the plan for physical humanity and the cleansing of the earth by fire before God the Father and the New Jerusalem comes down to the earth; and the beginning of the Eighth Day with is a new beginning for all humanity going forward into all eternity as spirit with God.
Using the concept of duality with the coming of Christ as a precursor to the coming of God the Father, Peter then immediately uses the term “Day of the Lord” to refer to information about the final total destruction and cleansing of the earth; before eternity with God the Father for all humanity changed to eternal spirit.
. . . .in the which the heavens shall pass away with a great noise, and the elements shall melt with fervent heat, the earth also and the works that are therein shall be burned up.
3:11 Seeing then that all these things shall be dissolved, what manner of persons ought ye to be in all holy conversation [words and deeds] and godliness, 3:12 Looking for and hasting unto the coming of the day of God, wherein the heavens being on fire shall be dissolved, and the elements shall melt with fervent heat? 3:13 Nevertheless we, according to his promise, look for new heavens and a new earth, wherein dwelleth righteousness.
This refers to that time after all the plan for PHYSICAL humanity has been completed and the whole earth will be cleansed by fire to purify it from all uncleanness so that the New Jerusalem and the Father may come to dwell with his spirit children on this earth!
Here Peter is revealing the great power of Almighty God and encourage all people to remain true to God the Father and to enthusiastically keep the whole Word of God; and by internalizing the very nature of god through pleasing him, we can look forward to spending eternity in perfect peace and harmony with God and our spiritual brethren!
That is the true meaning of the Eighth Day: a New Beginning going forth into eternity in peace with God; through total unity with Jesus Christ and God the Father!
3:14 Wherefore, beloved, seeing that ye look for such things, be diligent that ye may be found of him [God] in peace [with God], without spot, and blameless [without even a hint of sin].
3:15 And account that the longsuffering [God’s patience with us] of our Lord is salvation; even as our beloved brother Paul also according to the wisdom given unto him hath written unto you;
Peter here warns the brethren to be on the lookout for those who would twist the words of Paul to lead men away from their zeal for keeping the whole Word of God.
3:16 As also in all his epistles, speaking in them of these things; in which are some things hard to be understood, which they that are unlearned and unstable wrest, as they do also the other scriptures, unto their own destruction.
Brethren, you too have been warned. I have not warned but have studied with you through the complete Epistles of Paul, to show the true and godly meaning and the true passionate zeal of Paul to keep the whole Word of God. Therefore beware of the twistings of the Words especially the words of Paul, to dampen your zeal to keep the whole Word of God and follow idols of men.
3:17 Ye therefore, beloved, seeing ye know these things before [We have be warned ahead of time], beware lest ye also, being led away with the error of the wicked, fall from your own stedfastness.
3:18 But grow in grace [Mercy, which comes through sincere repentance and rejection of error to embrace the truth of God], and in the knowledge [continually rooting out all error to accept the truth of God in diligent study to seek out and find the truth of God] of our Lord and Saviour Jesus Christ. To him be glory both now and for ever. Amen.
We are to be diligent in our internalizing of the mind and nature of God; coming into peace with God, unspotted by sin and blameless as to those things that separate us from God. This is achieved through whole hearted sincere repentance and a continual growing into a full unity with God the Father; through diligent study, and the uncompromising practical application of all of God’s commandments in our lives.
The experience of Daniel’s three friends is an instructional example for us that we are to be faithful to the whole Word of God throughout our called out lives, regardless of any fiery trials that come our way; and of we do so we will be WITH Christ and he will be WITH us! and when we come out of the fiery trials in the flesh to be resurrected to spirit, not so much as the smell of sin shall be upon us!
Dan 3:26 Then Nebuchadnezzar came near to the mouth of the burning fiery furnace, and spake, and said, Shadrach, Meshach, and Abednego, ye servants of the most high God, come forth, and come hither. Then Shadrach, Meshach, and Abednego, came forth of the midst of the fire.
27 And the princes, governors, and captains, and the king’s counsellors, being gathered together, saw these men, upon whose bodies the fire had no power, nor was an hair of their head singed, neither were their coats changed, nor the smell of fire had passed on them.
