The Book of Malachi is the last Book of the Mosaic Scriptures, and the last Book of the Prophets called during the Mosaic Covenant. Malachi was sent to Prophesy about the times just before the first coming of Christ; and much in this is an applicable lesson about the situation just before Christ’s second coming.
The situation and the problems before the first and second comings are very much alike. Both Comings were [or are] preceded by a Pharisaical leaning to the traditions and reasoning’s of men, with a laxity of zeal for God’s ways, when they interfered with the traditions of the groups.
Both had leaders who say “sin is the transgression of the law” while they were lax in actually keeping the law themselves. Both burden the people with burdens that they would not lift a finger to bare themselves.
For many leaders today, the main concern as then is to occupy the chief place among the people and the money that is tithed; while neglecting the weightier matters of the law. As Christ said; BOTH these things should be done, including the tithing and the weightier matters.
Matthew 23:23 Woe unto you, scribes and Pharisees, hypocrites! for ye pay tithe of mint and anise and cummin, and have omitted the weightier matters of the law, judgment, mercy, and faith: these ought ye to have done, and not to leave the other undone.
1 Timothy 3:16 All scripture is given by inspiration of God, and is profitable for doctrine, for reproof, for correction, for instruction in righteousness: 17That the man of God may be perfect, thoroughly furnished unto all good works.
We are commanded to be [or become] perfect before God; and both Malachi and Jude reveal very much about what needs to be worked on in this latter day.
Matthew 5:48 Be ye therefore perfect, even as your Father which is in heaven is perfect.
As Malachi wrote mainly about the conditions before the first coming, Jude wrote the last Book before the final Revelation of Jesus Christ; the last Book before the second coming.
Jude reveals the conditions just prior to the final hour of trial and the second coming of Christ. Malachi reveals certain physical problems and sins; and Jude adds the spiritual perspective of the New Covenant.
Malachi and Jude are very much complimentary books, both writing of conditions before the coming of Christ.
For Malachi, I will be using and English translation of the Masoretic text.
In the Masoretic text, Malachi is divided into three chapters only, although it contains the same full four chapters of scripture that is contained in the KJV.
Malachi 1:1 The burden of the word of the LORD to Israel by Malachi.
A prophecy against Esau [Turkey and the Turkmens] God is against Esau because despised his birthright selling it for a bowl of stew as very many today despise the birthright of their calling trading it for the pleasures of worldliness.
1;2 I have loved you, saith the LORD. Yet ye say: ‘Wherein hast Thou loved us?’ Was not Esau Jacob’s brother? saith the LORD; yet I loved Jacob;
1:3 But Esau I hated, and made his mountains a desolation, and gave his heritage to the jackals of the wilderness.
1:4 Whereas Edom saith: ‘We are beaten down, but we will return and build the waste places’; thus saith the LORD of hosts: They shall build, but I will throw down; and they shall be called the border of wickedness, and the people whom the LORD execrateth for ever.
1:5 And your eyes shall see, and ye shall say: ‘The LORD is great beyond the border of Israel.’
Esau sold his birthright for a bowl of food. He did not value what he had. Even so the saint that thinks little of his birthright through the Father’s calling; and compromises fearing what men may do; will be despised like Esau. As Esau despised his birthright, God despised him. If we will not zealously treasure our birthright as that Pearl of Great Price, giving everything for it; God will also despise us.
We have been called to a birth into eternal life, as the children of the Most High God; it is our birthright to be spiritually united with the Son of God for all eternity. God in his mercy has given us the right to call him “Father” to be totally at one with him and his son; to inherit ALL things!
Will we despise that birthright gift as Esau despised his?
What we have been called to, is worth all the suffering and persecution that this world and its god has to offer. It is WORTH fighting for; WORTH suffering for; WORTH enduring for! It is the pearl of Great Value which is worth everything in this world put together.
Why would anyone throw it away to go back into the Egypt of bondage to sin which we were called out of?
We call God our Father and yet we have no respect or fear of him that we should live by His Word.
1:6 A son honoureth his father, and a servant his master; if then I be a father, where is My honour? and if I be a master, where is My fear? saith the LORD of hosts unto you, O priests, that despise My name. And ye say: ‘Wherein have we despised Thy name?’
The priests were figuratively today’s leaders and elders.
As they offered polluted bread; the unleavened bread of the offerings being representative of the unleavened Bread of Life; the Word of God, so the church leaders and elders of today offer polluted spiritual bread in mixing God’s Word with their own false traditions. They hold the truth of God in contempt, even willing to exalt themselves above God by claiming that they have the right to bind and loose God’s Word as they see fit; deciding right and wrong for themselves like Eve and Adam.
1:7 Ye offer polluted bread upon Mine altar. And ye say: ‘Wherein have we polluted thee?’ In that ye say: ‘The table of the LORD is contemptible.
Today’s leaders and elders offer false teachings and demand to be idolized above God’s Word by the brethren and imagine that God will accept this great evil. and bless them
1:8 And when ye offer the blind for sacrifice, is it no evil! And when ye offer the lame and sick, is it no evil! Present it now unto thy governor; will he be pleased with thee? or will he accept thy person? saith the LORD of hosts.
Our correction will come upon us because of our own wickedness; therefore quickly and sincerely repent to love the Eternal and live by his Word. Exalt the Eternal God above your own imaginations and idols of men, reject error and embrace truth and justice.
1:9 And now, I pray you, entreat the favour of God that He may be gracious unto us!–this hath been of your doing.–will He accept any of your persons? saith the LORD of hosts.
The alter is the table of the Lord upon which the sacrifice is laid. Each type of sacrifice is a type of an aspect of the work and sacrifice of Christ. When we say that we cannot overcome sin and then continue in sin, believing that we as sinners will be accounted righteous; we make a mockery of the sacrifice of Christ.
When we are full of the spots and blemishes of sin and then insist that God sees us as pure; we delude ourselves. We do not value our calling, like Esau we are simply not willing to make the effort to overcome.
1:10 Oh that there were even one among you that would shut the doors [on the Sabbath to keep from traveling or buying and breaking the commandments], that ye might not kindle fire [that we not seek the application of the sacrifice of Christ in vain by continuing in our sins] on Mine altar in vain! I have no pleasure in you, saith the LORD of hosts, neither will I accept an offering at your hand.
1:11 For from the rising of the sun even unto the going down of the same My name is great among the nations; and in every place offerings are presented unto My name, even pure oblations; for My name is great among the nations, saith the LORD of hosts.
Christ loved his wife Israel with a deep and abiding love. Though she played the whore by going after other gods many times and left him many times, he forgave and forgave them each time they returned to him. In spite of her unfaithfulness he was NEVER unfaithful to her and remained faithful right up until that marriage was dissolved by his very literal death.
Even so he loves those now called by the Father to be espoused to him. Yet he does not want to go through that kind of marriage ever again. He is testing us and judging us as to whether he really wants us as a part of his bride. No person who is lax for sin; which really means lax in obedience to him, will qualify to have a part as his bride. No he has had one bad marriage and he does not want another.
He wants his dream bride; someone to love and cherish and delight in; who will love and cherish and delight in him. He wants a bride who will value what he values, love what he loves; and always and forever, cooperate and work together with him. He wants a bride that will be a true and real help to him and not a burden of sorrows.
He does not want a bride who does not acknowledge his Love and Authority; who does what she wants instead of what he commands. Those, who will justify sin [disobedience] now, when our choosing is in doubt; how can we be trusted to be obedient and zealously faithful after we have received our reward?
1:12 But ye profane it, in that ye say: ‘The table of the LORD is polluted, and the fruit thereof, even the food [the Word of God] thereof, is contemptible.’
We prefer the words of our idols of men to the truth. Twisting the Word of God to try and justify remaining in or tolerating willful sin.
1:13 Ye say also: ‘Behold, what a weariness is it!’ and ye have snuffed [We turn up our noses at the truth of God to exalt the words of our idols of men above the Word of God] at it, saith the LORD of hosts; and ye have brought that which was taken by violence, and the lame, and the sick; thus ye bring the offering; should I accept this of your hand? saith the LORD.
The alter is the table of the Lord upon which the sacrifice is laid. Each type of sacrifice is a type of an aspect of the work and sacrifice of Christ. Rejecting the “Table of the LORD” is a reference to rejecting Jesus Christ as our authority to follow our own vain imaginations like rejecting the scriptures on the Sabbath and calendar to do as WE decide.
The sacrificial animals are types of Christ, it is not fit that his perfection be represented by the sick, blind and lame.
For them to offer to offer the sick, blind and lame as representations of Christ shows contempt for the Lamb of God! Today we show our contempt for Christ and God the Father by exalting the words of idols of men above the Word of God.
Today it is WE who are spiritually sick, blind and lame and we know it not Rev 3.
Today the sacrifice of Christ is presented by him, to the Father, on behalf of the repentant, yet we must also bring a sacrifice! We must sacrifice ourselves and our sinful nature; denying ourselves and taking up our cross [burden] and following Christ. We must kill the old sinful self in the water of baptism and arise a NEW being in Christ, totally dedicated to him, totally faithful to him, totally obedient to him.
Has zealous obedient service to our espoused Husband become a weariness to us; do we lift up our noses at those who are indeed filled with enthusiastic zeal for our God? Are we lax and lukewarm in the keeping of all the commandments of God, considering it a burden; while we are filled with zeal for some man or institution instead of our Lord?
1 Corinthians 7:23 Ye are bought with a price; be not ye the servants of men. We are no longer our own, we have been purchased at a great price; WE BELONG TO CHRIST! We have no right to do our own things our own way, we are to bring ourselves as a living sacrifice to HIM.
Romans 12:1 I beseech you therefore, brethren, by the mercies of God, that ye present your bodies a living sacrifice, holy, acceptable unto God [through living by every Word of God], which is your reasonable service.
2And be not conformed to this world: but be ye transformed by the renewing of your mind [replacing worldliness with godliness], that ye may prove what is that good, and acceptable, and perfect, will of God.
We are to be a living sacrifice; which refers to a life of service to Christ and God the Father. If we present a lax and lukewarm sacrifice of obedience and service to Christ and his Father; are we not the same as those who offered the sick, blind and lame?
When we admit that we are full of the spots and blemishes of sin and then insist that God sees us as pure; we delude ourselves. We do not value our calling: Like Esau we are simply not willing to make the effort to overcome. Like the Pharisees we are presenting an unworthy sacrifice [of service] to our mighty God.
James 1:22 But be ye doers of the word, and not hearers only, deceiving your own selves.
23For if any be a hearer of the word, and not a doer, he is like unto a man beholding his natural face in a glass:
24For he beholdeth himself, and goeth his way, and straightway forgetteth what manner of man he was.
25But whoso looketh into the perfect law of liberty [deliverance from sin] , and continueth therein, he being not a forgetful hearer, but a doer of the work, this man shall be blessed in his deed.
The over-comer shall have the reward of his calling. Almighty God places a difference between the Holy and the Profane; and NO person unclean by reason of sin shall enter his kingdom. He will not overlook continuing in sin and the mocking of his sacrifice.
Galatians 6:7 Be not deceived; God is not mocked: for whatsoever a man soweth, that shall he also reap. [Christ will not overlook our sin, nor will he forgive unrepented sin.]
We are to grow and overcome as we learn, but if we stop sincerely trying and just say, “I don’t worry about it, Christ will forgive” we have made the sacrifice of Christ into a license to continue in sin; we have made a mockery of the sacrifice of Christ.
1 Corinthians 6:9 Know ye not that the unrighteous shall not inherit the kingdom of God? Be not deceived: neither fornicators, nor idolaters, nor adulterers, nor effeminate, nor abusers of themselves with mankind,
10Nor thieves, nor covetous, nor drunkards, nor revilers, nor extortioners, shall inherit the kingdom of God.
Galatians 5:19 Now the works of the flesh are manifest, which are these; Adultery, fornication, uncleanness, lasciviousness,
20Idolatry, witchcraft, hatred, variance, emulations, wrath, strife, seditions, heresies,
21Envyings, murders, drunkenness, revellings, and such like: of the which I tell you before, as I have also told you in time past, that they which do such things shall not inherit the kingdom of God.
No, Christ is not going to overlook these things and just pronounce “you are forgiven” without any real genuine effort to overcome on our part.
1 John 3:7 Little children, let no man deceive you: he that doeth righteousness is righteous, even as he is righteous.
8He that committeth sin is of the devil; for the devil sinneth from the beginning. For this purpose the Son of God was manifested, that he might destroy the works of the devil.
9Whosoever is born of God doth not commit sin; for his seed remaineth in him: and he cannot sin, because he is born of God.
Even as these people despised the sacrifice on the alter [God’s table] offering the sick, blind and lame, as shadows of the Lamb of God; even so those who are lax, lukewarm and soft on sin; also make a mockery of the sacrifice of Christ.
Malachi 1:14 But cursed be he that dealeth craftily, whereas he hath in his flock a male, and voweth, and sacrificeth unto the Lord a blemished thing; for I am a great King, saith the LORD of hosts, and My name is feared among the nations.
The sacrifice of Christ is to be RESPECTED and exalted; we are to sorrow to the point that we loathe our sin and turn from it in absolute disgust; completely broken up in sincere repentant contrition over the evil that required the death of PERFECTION because of our wickedness.
As he gave a PERFECT sacrifice for us: we MUST provide a true LIVING SACRIFICE of service and faithful loving passionate obedience to him. We must not offer a living sacrifice of laxity, lukewarmness, complacency and carelessness.
We must not exalt others above He who purchased us and delivered us. No, we must not break his commandments, because some man or organization told us to!
WE MUST study the scriptures and think on them night and day to see how we can better serve and please he who delivered us. We must be always faithful to the Mediator of our New Covenant which is our espoused Husband.
We MUST NOT replace zeal for HIM with zeal for a man or institution; thinking that we are pleasing him! That is like a wife giving herself to some other man, thinking that she is pleasing her husband!
Surely, this is NOT pleasing to Christ! It is IDOLATRY and it is SPIRITUAL ADULTERY! It is NOT serving Christ, but another !

Almighty God is NOT soft on sin, because sin destroys that which he loves so very deeply: His people!
