The Plagues on Egypt
Moses and Aaron visited the elders of Israel and told them of their mission, and then they went to pharaoh who refused to let the people go and increased their burdens. Israel then complained to Moses and God told Moses to stand fast in his mission and go before pharaoh again.
The Egyptians had a pantheistic religion in which all physical things had a little bit of God in them. That being the case they worshipped the creation in place of the Creator.
With Amun-Ra as the sun and chief god, all other things from cats to crocodiles, from dung beetles to the bull god Apis were worshipped as gods.
The sin of Aaron and Israel and later of Jeroboam in setting up golden calves as gods, came from the Egyptian worship of Apis the bull god.
The superstitious Egyptian common folk literally worshipped these physical things, while the high level initiates understood that these things were only symbols of spirit entities.
The sun was a symbol of Lucifer [Satan] called Saturn and Baal in other languages.
From this point on every sign and every plague given in Egypt, used the gods of Egypt themselves either to afflict the Egyptians by their own gods, or to demonstrate the power of the Eternal over all other gods.
Then God said, stand back and see what I shall do to Pharaoh, for God had hardened Pharaoh’s heart that God might show forth his power as the Deliverer of physical and spiritual Israel! This was for us as well as those people, that we might know the power of our Mighty God and always be zealous and faithful to his Word in the flesh and in the spirit.
Exodus 6:1 Then the LORD said unto Moses, Now shalt thou see what I will do to Pharaoh: for with a strong hand shall he let them go, and with a strong hand shall he drive them out of his land.
Then Messiah the Christ informed Moses that he would keep his promises to their forbearers and deliver them out of Egypt. Even so the Mighty God whose dwelling is eternity; will keep his promises to the spiritually called out of bondage to sin!
If we follow HIM faithfully and live by EVERY Word of God always, we shall enter the spiritual Promised Land of eternal life!
The Eternal IS God Almighty and beside him there are NO other gods!
6:2 And God spake unto Moses, and said unto him, I am the LORD: 6:3 And I appeared unto Abraham, unto Isaac, and unto Jacob, by the name of God Almighty, but by my name JEHOVAH [YHVH] was I not known to them. 6:4 And I have also established my covenant with them, to give them the land of Canaan, the land of their pilgrimage, wherein they were strangers. 6:5 And I have also heard the groaning of the children of Israel, whom the Egyptians keep in bondage; and I have remembered my covenant.
Today the whole earth groans under the bondage of sin; God will deliver his spiritually called out soon, and after that he will deliver the whole earth from Satan the god-king Pharaoh who holds this world in bondage!
Our Deliverer will keep his promises and deliver his faithful of spiritual Israel, into the Promised Land of eternal life and all good things. Then Christ will also deliver all humanity, grafting then into spiritual Israel, his collective bride!
As physical Israel had God’s promise of deliverance from bondage in Egypt; God has given mankind a promise of deliverance from Satan and sin!
6:6 Wherefore say unto the children of Israel, I am the LORD, and I will bring you out from under the burdens of the Egyptians, and I will rid you out of their bondage, and I will redeem you with a stretched out arm, and with great judgments: 6:7 And I will take you to me for a people, and I will be to you a God: and ye shall know that I am the LORD your God, which bringeth you out from under the burdens of the Egyptians [a type of deliverance from bondage to sin and Satan]. 6:8 And I will bring you in unto the land, concerning the which I did swear to give it to Abraham, to Isaac, and to Jacob; and I will give it you for an heritage: I am the LORD.
The people could not believe because they focused on the cruelty of their bondage; even so many of us lose faith in the midst of our afflictions in this life.
It is very hard to think of a wonderful future when we are faced with present distress. Yet to overcome the present distress, we must remain focused on the end result of our calling, and on the power of our God to deliver in his own good time!
As our Great God made an example of Pharaoh in Egypt; in these last days he is making an example of his power to accomplish his purposes against Satan.
Messiah the Christ shall come to resurrect his chosen and then will return with his collective bride with great power and glory to bring the millennial Sabbath of rest and bring freedom from the burden of sin to this world!
6:9 And Moses spake so unto the children of Israel: but they hearkened not unto Moses for anguish of spirit, and for cruel bondage.
Then Christ sent Moses to speak unto Pharaoh again
6:10 And the LORD spake unto Moses, saying, 6:11 Go in, speak unto Pharaoh king of Egypt, that he let the children of Israel go out of his land.
Moses discouraged asked Christ: “What is the use of going back to Pharaoh?”
6:12 And Moses spake before the LORD, saying, Behold, the children of Israel have not hearkened unto me; how then shall Pharaoh hear me, who am of uncircumcised lips?
God then commissioned Aaron and Moses with the responsibility to bring Israel out of Egypt.
It is so easy to get discouraged and to have a crisis of faith when we focus on the present distress and do not focus on the power of our Mighty God. Even Moses got discouraged many times, but nevertheless God kept all of his promises and demonstrated his mighty power to deliver his people if they will only trust him and keep his Word.
Brethren, these things were recorded for us, that in times of trials we should not be discouraged; but should have faith in the word, promises and power of our God to raise us up from the pit to the birthright of our calling which is eternal life, if we faint not in following our Mighty One!
6:13 And the LORD spake unto Moses and unto Aaron, and gave them a charge unto the children of Israel, and unto Pharaoh king of Egypt, to bring the children of Israel out of the land of Egypt.
An important thing to observe is that Moses and Aaron did not decide for themselves what to say to Pharaoh or what to do in Egypt. Instead they said what God had told them to say and proclaimed the plagues that God had commanded them to warn that God would bring. This was not about Moses, but was about revealing God and his power to Israel and Egypt and all the nations of that time.
The serpent was a symbol of the god Amun-Ra and God showed that he had power over the serpents of Amun
Exodus 7:1 And the LORD said unto Moses, See, I have made thee a god to Pharaoh: and Aaron thy brother shall be thy prophet. 7:2 Thou shalt speak all that I command thee: and Aaron thy brother shall speak unto Pharaoh, that he send the children of Israel out of his land.
The One who became Messiah explains that Pharaoh will not let the people go until he, YHVH, has made his power and glory known. In the same way at this end time, the power and glory of Messiah will be made known by God’s two prophets and all His mighty works at His coming.
As God delivered his called out bride from bondage to sin with many mighty deeds in physical Egypt; He will also deliver his spiritual Bride from bondage to sin, and raise up his faithful chosen to be a part of his collective spiritual Bride in that day.
God hardened Pharaoh’s heart to the level of hardness of the “heart” of Satan, that the allegory of Pharaoh being a type of Satan might be fulfilled more clearly.
7:3 And I will harden Pharaoh’s heart, and multiply my signs and my wonders in the land of Egypt. 7:4 But Pharaoh shall not hearken unto you, that I may lay my hand upon Egypt, and bring forth mine armies, and my people the children of Israel, out of the land of Egypt by great judgments.
As the Egyptians were made to fear God in ancient times; the spiritually Called Out will be made to fear, respect and to really know God and his deliverance from the bondage of sin in our time; and at this end time, all of the world will be made to know God at the coming of Messiah the Christ.
7:5 And the Egyptians shall know that I am the LORD, when I stretch forth mine hand upon Egypt, and bring out the children of Israel from among them.
Moses and Aaron now knew the purpose of God and the reason for the actions of Christ in hardening Pharaoh’s heart, and the mighty miracles that Messiah would perform for Israel.
We of spiritual Israel should also begin to understand the reason for the trials and afflictions in our lives; which is to bring us to the perfection of our Father!
7:6 And Moses and Aaron did as the LORD commanded them, so did they. 7:7 And Moses was fourscore years old, and Aaron fourscore and three years old, when they spake unto Pharaoh.
Christ commands Moses and Aaron to visit Pharaoh and to show him the first miracle that was shown to the elders of Israel.
7:8 And the LORD spake unto Moses and unto Aaron, saying, 7:9 When Pharaoh shall speak unto you, saying, Shew a miracle for you: then thou shalt say unto Aaron, Take thy rod, and cast it before Pharaoh, and it shall become a serpent.
The wise men [priests of Amun] of Egypt duplicated this miracle by the power of Amun [Satan] whom they worshipped.
Here we have a short duel between the miracle workers of Egypt and the servants of God, between Amun [Satan] and the Eternal.
7:10 And Moses and Aaron went in unto Pharaoh, and they did so as the LORD had commanded: and Aaron cast down his rod before Pharaoh, and before his servants, and it became a serpent. 7:11 Then Pharaoh also called the wise men and the sorcerers: now the magicians of Egypt, they also did in like manner with their enchantments. 7:12 For they cast down every man his rod, and they became serpents: but Aaron’s rod swallowed up their rods. 7:13 And he hardened Pharaoh’s heart, that he hearkened not unto them; as the LORD had said.
Pharaoh saw the miracles of his own people and maybe thought that the God of Moses and Aaron was not greater than his god Amun-Ra.
7:14 And the LORD said unto Moses, Pharaoh’s heart is hardened, he refuseth to let the people go.
Then God sent Moses and Aaron to meet Pharaoh at the river side to turn the water into blood to show the power of God, but the magicians of Egypt [Satan] were again able to replicate the miracle.
7:15 Get thee unto Pharaoh in the morning; lo, he goeth out unto the water; and thou shalt stand by the river’s brink against he come; and the rod which was turned to a serpent shalt thou take in thine hand.
Moses and Aaron are then told by the One who later gave up his God-hood to become flesh and die like a Lamb for his creation, to speak against the Nile [which was worshipped as the goddess Anuket] unto Pharaoh
7:16 And thou shalt say unto him, The LORD God of the Hebrews hath sent me unto thee, saying, Let my people go, that they may serve me in the wilderness: and, behold, hitherto thou wouldest not hear. 7:17 Thus saith the LORD, In this thou shalt know that I am the LORD: behold, I will smite with the rod that is in mine hand upon the waters which are in the river, and they shall be turned to blood. 7:18 And the fish that is in the river shall die, and the river shall stink; and the Egyptians shall lothe to drink of the water of the river.
After Moses and Aaron had thus addressed the god-king of Egypt; Messiah the Christ, commanded them to lift up the rod against the Nile and all its tributaries and streams in the delta.
7:19 And the LORD spake unto Moses, Say unto Aaron, Take thy rod, and stretch out thine hand upon the waters of Egypt, upon their streams, upon their rivers, and upon their ponds, and upon all their pools of water, that they may become blood; and that there may be blood throughout all the land of Egypt, both in vessels of wood, and in vessels of stone.
They obeyed the spiritual Lamb of God, and all was fulfilled as Messiah had declared.
7:20 And Moses and Aaron did so, as the LORD commanded; and he lifted up the rod, and smote the waters that were in the river, in the sight of Pharaoh, and in the sight of his servants; and all the waters that were in the river were turned to blood. 7:21 And the fish that was in the river died; and the river stank, and the Egyptians could not drink of the water of the river; and there was blood throughout all the land of Egypt.
Then the Egyptian magicians turned pots of well water into blood
7:22 And the magicians of Egypt did so with their enchantments: and Pharaoh’s heart was hardened, neither did he hearken unto them; as the LORD had said. 7:23 And Pharaoh turned and went into his house, neither did he set his heart to this also.
The river was as blood for seven days, and the Egyptians dug wells for water.
7:24 And all the Egyptians digged round about the river for water to drink; for they could not drink of the water of the river. 7:25 And seven days were fulfilled, after that the LORD had smitten the river.
