This chapter begins with God’s condemnation of inter-religious marriage, just as the sons of God [called and converted men desired unconverted women] intermarried with unbelievers in those days; and the unconverted partners led the converted astray.
This resulted in the men being subverted from God as Solomon was. The term “son’s of God” is also applied to the angels in Job, but that is not the case here as I will shortly prove.
Genesis 6:2 That the sons 1121 of God 430 saw 7200 8799 the daughters 1323 of men 120 that they 2007 [were] fair 2896; and they took 3947 8799 them wives 802 of all which they chose 977 8804.
Genesis 6:1 And it came to pass, when men began to multiply on the face of the earth, and daughters were born unto them, 6:2 That the sons of God [converted men] saw the daughters of men [unconverted women] that they were fair; and they took them wives of all which they chose.
The sorrow that these mixed marriages brought, besides turning the called out away from God; caused Christ to give up on striving with wicked humanity and to decide to put an end to men with a flood 120 years in the future.
It is clear that many post flood life spans surpassed 120 years of age. Every descendant in the line of Shem from his son Arphaxad down to Jacob lived more than 120 years, therefore this 120 years refers to the warning period before the flood.
6:3 And the LORD said, My spirit shall not always strive with man, for that he also is flesh: yet his days shall be an hundred and twenty years.
There is great confusion here, as some have taught that angels married women and reproduced to create some kind of giants.
Let us put the facts together on this.
1. Angels do not marry and they do not reproduce.
2. Each kind reproduces after its own kind and spiritual kinds cannot reproduce with physical kinds. Man was made after the God kind and has the potential to be born of God; the angels were created in multiple kinds of angels none of them of the God kind.
3. These giants were pre-flood and were completely destroyed in the Noah flood. Therefore they were not the progenitors of any giants that existed post-flood.
4. The word “giant ” here does not necessarily mean being physically huge at all. It means being a mighty man, a man of renown; a bully, tyrant, dominator of others.
Strong’s Genesis 6:4 There were giants 5303 in the earth 776 in those days 3117; and also after 310 that 3651, when 834 the sons 1121 of God 430 came in 935 8799 unto the daughters 1323 of men 120, and they bare 3205 8804 [children] to them, the same 1992 [became] mighty men 1368 which [were] of old 5769, men 582 of renown 8034.
6:4 There were giants [tyrants] in the earth in those days; and also after that, when the sons of God came in unto the daughters of men, and they bare children to them, the same became mighty men which were of old, men of renown.
These tyrants dominated followings of people; just like the Nicolaitanes of the today’s spiritual Ekklesia. Then these groups fought with each other just as the nations did after the flood until this day.
God the Father and Jesus Christ loved mankind and were very sorrowful over all of the sufferings of humanity; and it was decided to stop the suffering.
Then later they would bring these folks up in a physical resurrection to a new world without Satan, for their only opportunity of salvation and receiving the gift of eternal life.
6:5 And God saw that the wickedness of man was great in the earth, and that every imagination of the thoughts of his heart was only evil continually. 6:6 And it repented the LORD that he had made man on the earth, and it grieved him at his heart. 6:7 And the LORD said, I will destroy man whom I have created from the face of the earth; both man, and beast, and the creeping thing, and the fowls of the air; for it repenteth me that I have made them.
Then he found Noah who had remained faithful to the whole Word of God from among all of humanity.
6:8 But Noah found grace in the eyes of the LORD.
The generations of Noah referred to here; are simply Noah, his wife and their three sons and their wives; and the time period in which they lived. This term is used to begin the story of Noah just as we might say: “The beginning of the story of Noah.”
Moses writes under inspiration, that Noah walked with God and that Noah was just and perfect before God. The term “perfect in his generations” simply means that Noah was perfect in his love for God and in his learning and living by every Word of God, throughout his lifetime; that is during the generations in which he lived. Noah was found faithful to God throughout his lifetime.
This has nothing to do with racism, for the whole earth was of the one race of Adam until God confused humanity at Babel.
Noah was saved because of his faithfulness to God and the Word of God, not because he was of some race or other. The Creator later created ALL races at Babel.
The word “generations” always refers to the passage of time in which one or more persons live, and never refers to race.
We will find Genesis 6:9 explained by Genesis 7:1 And the LORD said unto Noah, Come thou and all thy house into the ark; for thee have I seen righteous before me in this generation.
Genesis 6:9 These are the generations of Noah: Noah was a just man and perfect in his generations, and Noah walked with God. 6:10 And Noah begat three sons, Shem, Ham, and Japheth.
6:11 The earth also was corrupt before God, and the earth was filled with violence. 6:12 And God looked upon the earth, and, behold, it was corrupt; for all flesh had corrupted his way upon the earth.
The Elohim Member who later became Yeshua Mashiach [Jesus Christ] decided to destroy all of humanity and save Noah and his immediate family! WHY? Could he not have rebuked Satan and delivered these people at that time instead of destroying them?
Of course he could have! Then why not do so?
All scripture is for our learning and instruction! This was to be an allegorical lesson that ONLY those who are zealously faithful to God will be changed to spirit and given life eternal; while all of those who reject a zeal to learn and to live by every Word of God, deciding for themselves what is right and wrong: will perish.
This was an object lesson for us, and those people will be again raised to physical life and given their opportunity, and at that time they will understand that lesson!
Today, we also need to learn the lesson that deciding for ourselves and not being zealous to learn and live by every Word of God, brings destruction!
ONLY those who are perfect in their generations, through their converted lives; to learn and to zealously keep the whole Word of God will receive the promise of eternal life in the resurrection to spirit!
Jesus commanded us to be perfect like God the Father is perfect; which is to live as God the Father lives and as Jesus Christ lives. We are to become like God and to live according to his Word, as God the Father and Jesus live!
Matthew 5:48 Be ye therefore perfect, even as your Father which is in heaven is perfect.
Genesis 6:13 And God said unto Noah, The end of all flesh is come before me; for the earth is filled with violence through them; and, behold, I will destroy them with the earth.
The word “Gopher” is not translated to English but is the original word in Hebrew. “Gopher” does not necessarily mean a species of tree, which may or may not be in existence today. It most probably means pitched or waterproofed wood.
Due to the similarity between a “g” and a “k” in the Hebrew alphabet (both resemble a backwards “C”), some have suggested that the first letter in the word “gopher” could be a scribal error, and that the word should be “kopher.” Kopher is a Hebrew word translated as “pitch” in Genesis 6:14. Pitch is a waterproof covering.
As long as wooden ships have been used for long distance sailing it has been the practice to coat with pitch [tar] to prevent water logging.
This seems quite possible since the word “gopher” in nowhere else in the Bible.
6:14 Make thee an ark of gopher wood; rooms shalt thou make in the ark, and shalt pitch [“Kofer”] it within and without with pitch [“Kofer’].
The following dimensions are based on an 18 inch cubit; which could have possibly have been longer still.
6:15 And this is the fashion which thou shalt make it of: The length of the ark shall be three hundred cubits [450 feet; 135 meters], the breadth of it fifty cubits [75 feet, or 22.5 meters], and the height of it thirty cubits [its three stories totaled 45 feet, or 13.5 meters].
6:16 A window shalt thou make to the ark, and in a cubit shalt thou finish it above; and the door of the ark shalt thou set in the side thereof; with lower, second, and third stories shalt thou make it.
Each deck was equivalent in area to 20 standard college basketball courts or 36 lawn tennis courts. The rectangular dimensions of the Ark show an advanced design in ship-building. Its length of six times its width and 10 times its height would have made it amazingly stable on the ocean. Remember it was made more for floating than for sailing, because it wasn’t headed anywhere. The Ark was made to withstand a turbulent ocean voyage, not to be at a certain place at a certain time.
6:17 And, behold, I, even I, do bring a flood of waters upon the earth, to destroy all flesh, wherein is the breath of life, from under heaven; and every thing that is in the earth shall die.
A covenant of peace and salvation is made between the Creator and Noah and his family because of his faithfulness to live by every Word of God.
Those who break their baptismal covenant to keep the whole Word of God zealously, will not be saved from destruction, nor will they be changed to spirit to inherit eternal life.
6:18 But with thee will I establish my covenant; and thou shalt come into the ark, thou, and thy sons, and thy wife, and thy sons’ wives with thee.
Of each UNCLEAN species [not of each different creature within a species] one male and one female are to be taken into the ark. That would not necessarily include water creatures since verse 17 qualifies this by using the term breathing or breath.
6:19 And of every living thing of all flesh, two of every sort shalt thou bring into the ark, to keep them alive with thee; they shall be male and female. 6:20 Of fowls after their kind, and of cattle after their kind, of every creeping thing of the earth after his kind, two of every sort shall come unto thee, to keep them alive.
Noah is also told to stockpile food for his family and for the animals. One could easily speculate that many of the animals would hibernate for much of the time.
6:21 And take thou unto thee of all food that is eaten, and thou shalt gather it to thee; and it shall be for food for thee, and for them.
Noah not having known rain or flooding before, since the earth was watered by misting and dew; still believed and obeyed God.
Soon God will command that His people go to a refuge which he has prepared, a kind of an ark of safety; and those who obey God will be spared the correction that will come upon those who refuse to obey God.
God will warn us and clearly announce the consequences of each course of action, then the choice of whether to obey God or not will be ours.
6:22 Thus did Noah; according to all that God commanded him, so did he.
Genesis 7:1 explains what is meant by the term ” righteous in his generations” from Genesis 6:9.
Because Noah was faithful to serve God and to live by God’s Word and because he had taught his family to do likewise; he and his family were saved from destruction.
Brethren, those who love a corporate church, leader or any other thing more than the love and obey the whole Word of God: will not be in the resurrection to spirit and eternal life life unless they sincerely repent.
If we obey the elder above obeying God and sin against the sanctity of the Sabbath, or sin in any other way; we are guilty of idolizing those whom we have obeyed in place of zealously keeping the whole Word of God, will be corrected and if still not sincerely repentant; we will be destroyed as the wicked in Noah’s day were destroyed. For it is written:
John 8:34 Jesus answered them, Verily, verily, I say unto you, Whosoever committeth sin is the servant of sin.
Judge all men and their words by the whole Word of God and then zealously live by every Word of God above the words of ANY man (1 Thess 5:21, Mat 7 and Mat 4:4). Even if you are the only one doing so on earth as was Noah and his family!
Genesis 7:1 And the LORD said unto Noah, Come thou and all thy house into the ark; for thee have I seen righteous before me in this generation.
Now it is revealed that each clean species would have seven males and seven females saved. Therefore the concept of clean and unclean must have been understood by Noah as it was understood by Abel in order to offer an acceptable sacrifice. The Law of the Clean and the Unclean.
The Creator had taught these things from the beginning and when sin entered the world, so did the need for sacrifice to atone for that sin.
7:2 Of every clean beast thou shalt take to thee by sevens, the male and his female: and of beasts that are not clean by two, the male and his female. 7:3 Of [clean] fowls also of the air by sevens, the male and the female; to keep seed alive upon the face of all the earth.
The clean animals by seven pairs represented being clean from all uncleanness and sin; and the unclean animals by only one pair of each species [necessary to save them physically to have their species remain on the earth] represented all uncleanness and sin.
Seven days notice were still given to Noah after the ark and his preaching of warning was completed.
7:4 For yet seven days, and I will cause it to rain upon the earth forty days and forty nights; and every living substance that I have made will I destroy from off the face of the earth.
Noah obeyed God, as an example for us that we should also zealously live by every Word of God and teach our families to do likewise.
7:5 And Noah did according unto all that the LORD commanded him.
7:6 And Noah was six hundred years old when the flood of waters was upon the earth. 7:7 And Noah went in, and his sons, and his wife, and his sons’ wives with him, into the ark, because of the waters of the flood. 7:8 Of clean beasts, and of beasts that are not clean, and of fowls, and of every thing that creepeth upon the earth, 7:9 There went in two and two unto Noah into the ark, the male and the female, as God had commanded Noah.
7:10 And it came to pass after seven days, that the waters of the flood were upon the earth.
7:11 In the six hundredth year of Noah’s life, in the second month, the seventeenth day of the month, the same day were all the fountains of the great deep broken up, and the windows of heaven were opened.
The surface of the earth was quite different before this flood, with no high mountains.
Great earthquakes opened up the underground aquifers as the rain pelted done continually. in greater intensity than the tropical deluges of today; and the waters swept over the nearly level land surface in great tidal surges and tsunami’s.
7:12 And the rain was upon the earth forty days and forty nights.
The intense downpours and earthquakes began the same day that Noah and his family completed bringing the animals into the ark and then went inside themselves.
7:13 In the selfsame day entered Noah, and Shem, and Ham, and Japheth, the sons of Noah, and Noah’s wife, and the three wives of his sons with them, into the ark; 7:14 They, and every beast after his kind, and all the cattle after their kind, and every creeping thing that creepeth upon the earth after his kind, and every fowl after his kind, every bird of every sort. 7:15 And they went in unto Noah into the ark, two and two of all flesh, wherein is the breath of life. 7:16 And they that went in, went in male and female of all flesh, as God had commanded him: and the LORD shut him in.
Noah and his family entered the ark and the door was shut; so that in type, none could pass over the sea of death who were not diligent to obey God.
7:17 And the flood was forty days upon the earth; and the waters increased, and bare up the ark, and it was lift up above the earth.
7:18 And the waters prevailed, and were increased greatly upon the earth; and the ark went upon the face of the waters. 7:19 And the waters prevailed exceedingly upon the earth; and all the high hills, that were under the whole heaven, were covered.
The waters rose about 23 feet above the then existing earth. In that time the land level was far lower than modern mountains.
7:20 Fifteen cubits upward did the waters prevail; and the mountains were covered. 7:21 And all flesh died that moved upon the earth, both of fowl, and of cattle, and of beast, and of every creeping thing that creepeth upon the earth, and every man: 7:22 All in whose nostrils was the breath of life, of all that was in the dry land, died. 7:23 And every living substance was destroyed which was upon the face of the ground, both man, and cattle, and the creeping things, and the fowl of the heaven; and they were destroyed from the earth: and Noah only remained alive, and they that were with him in the ark.
The flood remained at its height for 150 days, or about five months.
7:24 And the waters prevailed upon the earth an hundred and fifty days.
