Hebrews 13

Hebrews 13:1 Let brotherly love continue. Be not forgetful to entertain strangers: for thereby, some have entertained angels unawares.

Be full of Godly love. God is love. And if you are a godly person, full of his Spirit, you will be filled with his love which means you will be passionately keeping the whole Word of God..

Everyone loves their own; the real test arises in how we react to our enemies. True godly love does not mean that we tolerate sin, but that we forgive those who sin and that we warn the sinner in hope that he will turn from his sinful ways and be saved.

See: Speaking the Truth in Love

Matthew 5:43 Ye have heard that it hath been said, Thou shalt love thy neighbour, and hate thine enemy.

5:44 But I say unto you, Love your enemies, bless them that curse you, do good to them that hate you, and pray for them which despitefully use you, and persecute you; 5:45 That ye may be the children of your Father which is in heaven: for he maketh his sun to rise on the evil and on the good, and sendeth rain on the just and on the unjust.

5:46 For if ye love them which love you, what reward have ye? do not even the publicans the same? 5:47 And if ye salute your brethren only, what do ye more than others? do not even the publicans so?

5:48 Be ye therefore perfect, even as your Father which is in heaven is perfect

Do we just love our own and reject others?

Unless we repent; we shall all stand ashamed before our Lord.

13:3 Remember them that are in bonds, as bound with them. [Think of yourself as being in the same chains as the other person is; or having the same trials as others, have real love and empathy.] Remember them which suffer adversity, as being yourselves also in the flesh.

Sex is a beautiful wonderful creation of God, but it must be used in the manner ordained and commanded by God; any unlawful use of sex diminishes and demeans the human being made in the image of God.

13:4 Marriage is honorable in all, and the bed undefiled: but whoremongers and adulterers God will judge.

God condemns fornication and adultery; which now abounds in the Ekklesia; BOTH physically and spiritually.

To esteem anyone more than your spouse is emotional adultery; and to esteem any human leader as your moral authority, is spiritual adultery against our espoused Husband Jesus Christ!

Sex and marriage are for one man and one woman and make of the two, one flesh.

Sexual activity is to be reserved for the marriage state. It is to be reserved for the union between a man and his [female] wife. And what they do with each other must be based on love and mutual respect and a desire to please one another and is intended by God to cement them together as one flesh and ultimately of one mind.

Therefore, sexual activities even within marriage must be based on, and full of love and concern for the other, and should not be selfish.

Our attitude in our marriages should not be ”You must do this for me because I want it; or I am the boss” No, the attitude of BOTH parties should be ”What can I do for you? How can I please you?” That attitude should be in BOTH our physical marriages and in our espousal to Jesus Christ!

John Kennedy, perhaps said that very aptly when he said, “Ask not what your country can do for you, ask what you can do for your country.” And that is true of marriage and that is true of any kind of godly relationship.

God has done so much for us and our attitude in our relationship with God should be about how we can best serve, follow and please God our Father in heaven and our espoused Husband!

Jesus Christ gave himself for his creation. We should remember that and consider that example and be willing to serve God the Father and Jesus Christ as they serve us.

We should be eagerly passionately seeking to wholeheartedly live by every Word of God and to do those things that are pleasing to God.

Ephesians 5:20 Giving thanks always for all things unto God and the Father in the name of our Lord Jesus Christ;

5:21 Submitting yourselves one to another in the fear of God.

5:22 Wives, submit yourselves unto your own husbands, as unto the Lord.

5:23 For the husband is the head of the wife, even as Christ is the head of the church: and he is the saviour of the body.

5:24 Therefore as the church is subject unto Christ, so let the wives be to their own husbands in every thing.

5:25 Husbands, love your wives, even as Christ also loved the church, and gave himself for it;

On Passover night, Christ washed the feet of the disciples to demonstrate to them not just humility, but a life of service to one another.

Hebrews 13:5 Let your conversation [conduct] be without covetousness, [without any selfishness and self-seeking; or seeking the dominance of others] and be content with such things as you have [physically, but seek godliness and the things of God]: for he has said, I will never leave thee, nor forsake thee. 13:6 So that we may boldly say, the Eternal is my helper, and I will not fear what man shall do unto me.

13:7 Remember them that have the rule over you, who have spoken unto you the word of God. [This is talking about those ministers who speak the TRUE Word of God. It is NOT talking about those ministers who speak their own words. It is talking about those who teach the whole Word of God, calling all to a genuine “from the heart” repentance and the passionate Christ-like keeping of every Word of God] whose faith follow, considering the end of their conversation [Prove out and consider the fruits of their conduct, whether they present evil teachings contrary to scripture and gendering to destruction, or godly conduct bringing eternal salvation!]

13:8 Jesus Christ is the same yesterday, and today, and forever.

God’s character does not change. The character of Jesus Christ does not change. Christ said, “I have kept my Father’s commandments.”

He will continue to keep his Father’s commandments for he said, “If you have seen me, you have seen the Father.” God the Father and Jesus Christ are one in total unity with each other. They cooperate and work together. They have the same attitude, the same approach, the same beliefs, understanding, purposes and desires.

The Son keeps the Father’s Word and if he {Christ, the Son}, through God’s Spirit is dwelling in you, he will be keeping God the Father’s Word within you!

The Spirit of God cannot turn against God’s commandments or any part of the whole Word of God. The Holy Spirit is the Spirit of TRUTH and by its very nature, it keeps God’s Word (which is TRUTH) and it empowers us to do likewise if it is dwelling in us.

Those who are willing to lie to maintain past false traditions now known to be in error: Do not love the truth! They are not of God’s Holy Spirit, but of another spirit which loves lies!

13:9 Be not carried about with divers and strange doctrines. For it is a good thing that the heart be established with grace; [the free application of the sacrifice of Christ to the sincerely repentant] not with meats [not with the physical sacrifices of the Mosaic Covenant and the Aaronic priesthood], which have not profited them that have been occupied therein.

Remember Paul is writing to the Hebrews [the Jews and Levites in Judea], and the subject is the change in the priesthood, covenants and the sacrificial system.

13:10 We have an altar, whereof they have no right to eat which serve the tabernacle.

We cannot serve two masters; either we seek to serve the priesthood of the dead Mosaic Covenant, or we serve the living sacrifice and High Priest of the eternally living New Covenant.

The sin offerings were burned outside the city, to be totally destroyed forevermore, but the sacrifice of the New Covenant has been raised to life eternal and now sits at the right hand of God the Father in heaven waiting to receive a Kingdom over all the earth!

Which is the better; that which cannot atone for sin and which has passed away; or that which HAS atoned for all PAST sincerely repented sin and lives forever as our eternal High Priest?

13:11 For the bodies of those beasts, whose blood is brought into the sanctuary by the high priest for sin [sin offerings], are burned without the camp

The altar of the New Covenant is before God the Father in heaven, and our sacrifice is Jesus Christ, the very Creator; the Lamb of God.

Jesus Christ was crucified outside the city, indicating that the Mosaic Covenant represented by the physical Jerusalem and Mosaic temple was ended, and that a New Covenant was being made sure.

13:12 Wherefore Jesus also, that he might sanctify the people with his own blood, suffered without the gate. 13:13 Let us go forth therefore unto him without the camp, bearing his reproach. 13:14 For here have we no continuing city, but we seek one [the resurrection to spirit of the New Covenant] to come.

Jesus Christ was killed outside the city, demonstrating that his priesthood, the priesthood of Melchisedec; was to be a different, a separate, a new priesthood and yet a very old priesthood because this priesthood of Melchisedec actually predated the Aaronic priesthood.

For we seek a city to come; which is, the New Jerusalem, the heavenly city.

13:15 By him therefore let us offer the sacrifice of praise to God continually, that is, the fruit of our lips giving thanks to his name. 13:16 But to do good and to communicate forget not: for with such sacrifices God is well pleased.

Do not forget brethren, to be grateful for the things that you have, even during times of poverty. Don’t focus so much on your trials, or on your troubles; but rather focus on the spiritual riches of your calling and on the heritage of the birthright of your calling which God has stored for you in his kingdom.

We have been called and given the birthright to become kings and priests forever. We have been called to eternal life. We need only submit to God the Father and live by every Word of God, which brings eternal life as a good child of our Father. God is not asking anything really difficult of you. He’s just asking you to live a way which brings peace and harmony and life.

It is Satan’s hatred of God and Satan’s hatred of God’s ways which causes him to persecute those people who do keep the commandments of life. It is not a burden to keep the Word of God. God’s Word light and easy to keep, as Jesus said, “My yoke is easy and my burden light.”

The heavy burden, is the burden that Satan places upon us, trying to discourage us to give up and quit. Even the poorest among us, the sickest, the people who have the most problems have a tremendous amount to rejoice for. We need to keep our eyes on the future, on God’s promises, on our true love for our Father and our espoused Husband, and on the inestimable value of the birthright of our calling. NEVER despise the value of the birthright of our calling as Esau did.

All those who account themselves as teachers of God must give an account to our Head Jesus Christ for what we teach.

How is it that so many teach the brethren to follow idols of men, and teach to follow traditions that they KNOW are false, even lying to maintain them, while decrying any zeal to keep the whole Word of God? How is it that such men do not tremble and exceedingly shake in fear of the just retribution of their idolatry? How can they escape the wrath of God?

13:17 Obey them that have the rule over you [in the Lord], and submit yourselves [to the whole Word of God]: for they [Godly teachers] watch for your souls, as they that must give account, that they may do it with joy, and not with grief: for that is unprofitable for you.

Consider, that we are to submit to those who are teaching us the TRUTH and the whole Word of God. We are to take what leaders, elders and others teach, and judge it against the whole Word of God. Then, ONLY if the teaching is consistent with God’s Word, and if we can prove the doctrine out of God’s Word; should we submit to that teaching, and we are to submit to those teachers as godly teachers.

Now, consider the other side of that coin. If you are a teacher; be very, very sure that what you are teaching is absolutely consistent with the whole Word of God.

The heart and soul, the very key of any godly teacher, is that he will always teach people to question him and prove him out by scripture; and he will MEAN THAT; and will never exalt himself.

He will never claim to be an apostle or prophet to gain a following, but will let people judge for themselves what he is by his fruits, according to the command of Jesus Christ in Matthew 7. A godly man will always fearlessly teach sincere repentance from sin and a passionate Christ-like zeal to live by every Word of God without any shadow of compromise.

Paul says that we must live with a clean conscience before God, which clean conscience is that we are pleasing our LORD and faithfully following him, and living by every Word of God.

Paul then asks the brotherhood in Jerusalem to pray that he can come to them soon.

13:18 Pray for us: for we trust we have a good conscience, in all things willing to live honestly. 13:19 But I beseech you the rather to do this, that I may be restored to you the sooner.

Paul then prays that God the Father will make us perfect in godliness, to keep the whole Word of God with the good work’s of faith, and strengthen us to do the Will of God and to please God the Father in all things through the indwelling power of the Spirit of Jesus Christ.

13:20 Now the God of peace, that brought again from the dead our Lord Jesus, that great shepherd of the sheep, through the blood of the everlasting [New] covenant,

13:21 Make you perfect in every good work to do his will, working in you that which is wellpleasing in his sight, through Jesus Christ; to whom be glory for ever and ever. Amen.

Who are we to please: Whose will are we to do? God the Father’s will!

12:22 And I beseech you, brethren, suffer [accept, obey] the word of exhortation: for I have written a letter unto you in few words. 13:23 Know ye that our brother Timothy is set at liberty; with whom, if he come shortly, I will see you. 13:24 Salute all them that have the rule over you, and all the saints. They of Italy salute you.

13:25 Grace [God’s Mercy] be with [upon] you all. Amen.

The Millennial Priesthood of Zadok

God has given a prophetic pledge of a Millennial New Covenant Temple and of the renewal of physical sacrifices, Ezekiel 40-48 and included in that prophecy was a promise that physical Levites and physical Priests from the line of Zadok [a descendant of Levi] would be called into the New Covenant to serve as a part of the priesthood of Jesus Christ.

That is not a promise of a restoration of all of the priesthood of Aaron! but is a promise to the descendants of faithful Zadok ONLY!

The promise to Zadok is not a promise of the restoration of the Aaronic priesthood, because the promise was not given to Aaron and to all the sons of Aaron, most of whom had not been faithful in their service and fell away time after time!

The promise was given to Zadok and to the descendants of Zadok ONLY! This because of the loyalty of Zadok and his sons during the kingdom of David beginning in 2 Sam 15 and continuing into 1 Kings.

The promise to Zadok does not mean that the Mosaic Covenant will be restored or that they will be Aaronic priests of the Mosaic Covenant! and to think so, one would have to reject the entire book of Hebrews! For Paul tells us several times and in various ways in the book of Hebrews that the Mosaic Covenant with its Aaronic priesthood has ended and has been replaced by the High Priesthood of Jesus Christ!

The promise to the descendants of Zadok means that men who are the descendants of the faithful sons of Zadok, will be called into the New Covenant; and will serve in the Millennial Temple as the priests of the New Covenant officiating over the physical things of the Millennial Temple.

This promise has two distinct meanings:

1 That some of the descendants of Zadok would be among the called out and the Chosen in the resurrection to spirit and be among the spirit priesthood of Jesus Christ in that way,

2 That some of the descendants of Zadok will live on into the Millennial Kingdom and will serve in the Millennial Temple in the physical necessities of the Temple! In BOTH cases they will be priests of the New Covenant priesthood of Jesus Christ and not priests of the Aaronic priesthood!

David was loyal to God and he shall rule Israel forever as a resurrected spirit; and as Zadok and his sons were loyal to God and to David and Solomon, they shall serve God in the Millennial Temple as priests of Jesus Christ in the New Covenant Millennial Temple.

Zadok has a promise from Almighty God, that because of his and his son’s faithfulness [trained up in the faithfulness of Zadok] in service to God under the Mosaic Covenant; his descendants will be called into the New Covenant and will serve in the New Covenant Millennial Temple!

The physical sacrifices of the Mosaic Covenant were an allegory of the sacrifice of Jesus Christ; to teach Israel that the wages of sin is death, and to teach Israel about the need for a better and more perfect sacrifice for sin.

Sacrifices will be restored in the Millennial Temple for the same reason, as a practical demonstration, lesson and teaching method. The descendants of Zadok will officiate in the physical sacrifices and the physical things of the Millennial Temple and will teach these principles. While the resurrected spirit priests and kings will teach the spiritual understandings of these things.

God gave the Mosaic Covenant as an allegory and foundation of the New Covenant.

The New Covenant is merely the Mosaic Covenant with a better sacrifice and better promises and the addition of the Holy Spirit to write the whole Word of God in our minds and on our hearts so that we may keep them.

The New Covenant being a much better Covenant, the old Mosaic Covenant by reason of its weakness has passed away and been replaced by the New as Paul teaches through the whole book of Hebrews.

Jeremiah 31:31 Behold, the days come, saith the Lord, that I will make a new covenant with the house of Israel, and with the house of Judah:

31:32 Not according to the covenant that I made with their fathers in the day that I took them by the hand to bring them out of the land of Egypt; which my covenant they brake, although I was an husband unto them, saith the Lord:

31:33 But this shall be the covenant that I will make with the house of Israel; After those days, saith the Lord, I will put my law in their inward parts, and write it in their hearts; and will be their God, and they shall be my people.

Jeremiah 33:16 In those days shall Judah be saved, and Jerusalem shall dwell safely: and this is the name wherewith she shall be called, The LORD our righteousness [The righteousness of the LORD is there]. 33:17 For thus saith the LORD; David shall never want a man to sit upon the throne of the house of Israel [referring to the now spirit and eternal David himself]; 33:18 Neither shall the priests the Levites [through the descendants of Zadok] want a man before me to offer burnt offerings, and to kindle meat offerings, and to do sacrifice continually

This is a promise that the descendants of Zadok will yet serve God and offer sacrifices in the New Covenant. It is not a promise that the Mosaic Covenant will endure, for Jer 31:31 plainly speaks of a New Covenant; and the Old is replaced by the New as Paul plainly says in Hebrews.

Jeremiah 33:20 Thus saith the LORD; if ye can break my covenant of the day, and my covenant of the night, and that there should not be day and night in their season; 33:21 Then may also my covenant be broken with David my servant, that he should not have a son to reign upon his throne; and with the Levites the priests, my ministers. 33:22 As the host of heaven cannot be numbered, neither the sand of the sea measured: so will I multiply the seed of David my servant, and the Levites that minister unto me.

This is NOT speaking of the Mosaic Covenant but is speaking of the New Covenant; the entire context of Jer 33 is the restoration of Israel in the millennium New Covenant Kingdom of God. We know this is speaking of the New Covenant because the gift of the Holy Spirit which was never promised in the Mosaic Covenant and is a promise exclusive to the New Covenant, will be poured out on all flesh Joel 2:28 in the Millennial New Covenant Kingdom of God!

Zadok (a descendant of Aaron (1 Chron 6:50-53) and his sons served in Solomon’s Temple and the son’s of Zadok will serve in the Ezekiel Millennial Temple, in place of the other sons of Aaron! However they will not serve as Mosaic priests, but as physical priests of Jesus Christ of the New Covenant.

1 Chronicles 29:22 And they made Solomon the son of David king the second time, and anointed him unto the LORD to be the chief governor, and Zadok to be priest.

2 Chhronicles 31:10 And Azariah the chief priest of the house of Zadok answered him, and said, Since the people began to bring the offerings into the house of the LORD, we have had enough to eat, and have left plenty: for the LORD hath blessed his people; and that which is left is this great store.

God promises that the descendants of the priests who remained faithful when the other Mosaic priests went astray, shall serve in the physical things of the Millennial Temple.

This is not a promise of a continuing Mosaic Covenant and it does not mean that they shall be Aaronic priests of the Mosaic Covenant.

Most of the physical priesthood of Aaron was rejected for their continual rebellion against God; while Zadok and his sons were faithful and have a promise from God that for their faithfulness, their descendants will serve as physical priests of the New Covenant in the Millennial Temple.

Ezekiel 44:15 But the priests the Levites, the sons of Zadok, that kept the charge of my sanctuary when the children of Israel went astray from me, they shall come near to me to minister unto me, and they shall stand before me to offer unto me the fat and the blood, saith the Lord GOD:

In the consecration of the altar, blood is the means by which it is purified and atoned for:

Leviticus 8:15 And he slew it; and Moses took the blood, and put it upon the horns of the altar round about with his finger, and purified the altar, and poured the blood at the bottom of the altar, and sanctified it, to make reconciliation upon it.

The Millennial Temple will also be sanctified by the blood of sacrifices and the Millennial Temple will be a place of sacrifice. Therefore it is needful that physical priests of the New Covenant serve in the Millennial Temple.

Ezekiel 43:20 You are to take some of its blood and put it on the four horns of the altar and on the four corners of the upper ledge and all around the rim, and so purify the altar and make atonement for it.

The sacrifices to be offered in the Millennial Temple in the New Covenant, are the same as those offered in the Mosaic Covenant, as recognized in this list:

Ezekiel 45:17 And it shall be the prince’s part to give burnt offerings, and meat offerings, and drink offerings, in the feasts, and in the new moons, and in the sabbaths, in all solemnities of the house of Israel: he shall prepare the sin offering, and the meat offering, and the burnt offering, and the peace offerings, to make reconciliation for the house of Israel.

The personal offerings for cleansing/atonement for impurity and sin are also instructional New Covenant offerings.

Regarding the Millennial temple Ezekiel writes:

Ezekiel 44:25 And they shall come at no dead person to defile themselves: but for father, or for mother, or for son, or for daughter, for brother, or for sister that hath had no husband, they may defile themselves. 44:26 And after he is cleansed, they shall reckon unto him seven days. 44:27 And in the day that he goeth into the sanctuary, unto the inner court, to minister in the sanctuary, he shall offer his sin offering, saith the Lord GOD.

Ezekiel 40:39 And in the porch of the gate were two tables on this side, and two tables on that side, to slay thereon the burnt offering and the sin offering and the trespass offering.

From the formula for the trespass offering from Leviticus:

Leviticus 5:16 and the priest shall make an atonement for him with the ram of the trespass offering, and it shall be forgiven him.

These physical priests that perform the sacrificial services, are physical helpers of the New Covenant priesthood of Jesus Christ, serving in the physical things of the Millennial Temple and are not priests of the Mosaic Covenant, but are converted into the New Covenant!

These physical priests of the New Covenant priests will also be teaching: which is what offering sacrifices really is:

Leviticus 10:8 And the LORD spake unto Aaron, saying, 10:9 Do not drink wine nor strong drink, thou, nor thy sons with thee, when ye go into the tabernacle of the congregation, lest ye die: it shall be a statute for ever throughout your generations: 10:10 And that ye may put difference between holy and unholy, and between unclean and clean; 10:11 And that ye may teach the children of Israel all the statutes which the LORD hath spoken unto them by the hand of Moses.

Ezekiel speaks of the physical priests of the New Covenant, the descendants of Zadok; as teachers also.

Ezekiel 44:22 Neither shall any priest drink wine, when they enter into the inner court [Millennial Temple]. 44:23 And they shall teach my people the difference between the holy and profane, and cause them to discern between the unclean and the clean.

Moses prophesies of the New Covenant in this manner.

Deuteronomy 30:1 And it shall come to pass, when all these things [specifically the great tribulation] are come upon thee, the blessing and the curse, which I have set before thee, and thou [they shall remember the whole Word of God to keep it] shalt call them to mind among all the nations, whither the LORD thy God hath driven thee, 30:2 And shalt return unto the LORD thy God, and shalt obey his voice according to all that I command thee this day, thou and thy children, with all thine heart, and with all thy soul; 30:3 That then the LORD thy God will turn thy captivity, and have compassion upon thee, and will return and gather thee from all the nations, whither the LORD thy God hath scattered thee. 30:4 If any of thine be driven out unto the outmost parts of heaven, from thence will the LORD thy God gather thee, and from thence will he fetch thee:

30:5 And the LORD thy God will bring thee into the land which thy fathers possessed, and thou shalt possess it; and he will do thee good, and multiply thee above thy fathers. 30:6 And the LORD thy God will circumcise thine heart, and the heart of thy seed, to love the LORD thy God with all thine heart, and with all thy soul, that thou mayest live. 30:7 And the LORD thy God will put all these curses upon thine enemies, and on them that hate thee, which persecuted thee.

30:8 And thou shalt return and obey the voice of the LORD, and do all his commandments which I command thee this day.

Which is a prophecy of the New Covenant Kingdom of God.

As a matter of interest the Temple Faithful consists of one core family who are preparing to serve in the coming Millennial Temple. They are filled with zeal to serve in the Millennial Temple which will be built by Messiah after he comes. Could they be the descendants of Zadok who will serve in the new Millennial Temple after they have been brought into the New Covenant when Messiah comes?
