The people wept over their sufferings, which had been brought on by their lust to return to Egypt, and repented not. Instead they blamed God for their troubles and continued to blame God for their troubles and to lust for the pleasures of worldliness.
How very like them we are today. We fast and beg God to bless us, while we continue to exalt our corporate entities, false traditions and leaders above the Word of God and trample all over any possible zeal to live by every Word of God! We call out to God, as we trample all over his Word and follow our own ways!
Numbers 14:1 And all the congregation lifted up their voice, and cried; and the people wept that night.
14:2 And all the children of Israel murmured against Moses and against Aaron: and the whole congregation said unto them, Would God that we had died in the land of Egypt! [they regretted being called out to obey God] or would God we had died in this wilderness! 14:3 And wherefore hath the LORD brought us unto this land, to fall by the sword, that our wives and our children should be a prey? were it not better for us to return into Egypt? 14:4 And they said one to another, Let us make a captain, and let us return into Egypt.
Today the Ekklesia has made themselves many captains, who are leading them AWAY from any zeal for the practical application of the Word of God; to follow men and organizations in idolatry and spiritual adultery! Like the ancient rebels they lead today’s brethren back into the worldliness of spiritual Egypt.
Moses and Aaron fell on their faces before God and the people; knowing that the fierce anger of Christ had been aroused. Moses as mediator of the covenant and Aaron as the high priest and also a mediator between the people and God.
14:5 Then Moses and Aaron fell on their faces before all the assembly of the congregation of the children of Israel.
Joshua and Caleb rose up and took a stand against the other spies before the people, to tell the truth that our Mighty God is above all others and can deliver us from all adversaries.
Just as Egypt was a type of bondage; Canaan was a type of wickedness and sin. The fight to possess Canaan was a type of the fight of the called out, to OVERCOME all sin and to wash away all sin, by internalizing the very nature of God through a diligent study and living by every Word of God.
The physical battle of Israel to possess Canaan, was a type of the spiritual battle to OVERCOME all sin by the faithful called out to the New Covenant and to enter the spiritual Promised Land of eternal life!
Canaan was a type of unrepentant sin and that is why they were to be utterly destroyed. They will be raised up and given their opportunity during the Feast of Tabernacles main harvest of humanity.
Physical Israel was commanded to destroy all of Canaan as a type of wickedness and unrepentant sin, so that we will learn that all unrepentant sinners will be destroyed. We have been called out to DESTROY all sin and compromise with any part of the Word of God, from within ourselves and ultimately in the whole world as leaders after the resurrection.
Let us stand strong against all sin, compromise and toleration of false doctrine [teachings]; with the FAITH and the ZEAL of Jesus, Caleb and Joshua!
14:6 And Joshua the son of Nun, and Caleb the son of Jephunneh, which were of them that searched the land, rent their clothes: 14:7 And they spake unto all the company of the children of Israel, saying, The land, which we passed through to search it, is an exceeding good land.
If we make God and the things and Word of God our delight, to follow and obey every Word of God; then God will delight in us!
14:8 If the LORD delight in us, then he will bring us into this land, and give it us; a land which floweth with milk and honey.
Fear not men and never exalt the word of men above the Word of God the Almighty!
Have courage and faith to live by every Word of God, which is for our good! Run to our God to find his deliverance, and NEVER tolerate false ways, or fall away into compromise with sin for the sake of any fear of men, or fall to any enticement to sin!
14:9 Only rebel not ye against the LORD, neither fear ye the people of the land; for they are bread for us: their defence is departed from them, and the LORD is with us: fear them not.
Those who take a stand for the Word of God may face intense persecution from even those who are in the congregation, yet God will love the zealous for him and God deliver his faithful in that day; and they shall shine like the stars forever and ever (Dan 12).
14:10 But all the congregation bade stone them with stones. And the glory of the LORD appeared in the tabernacle of the congregation before all the children of Israel.
The fury of Christ against the rebellions of the brethren is the same today as it was thousands of years ago.
Today, we stand at the very point of complete rejection by Jesus Christ into the correction of great tribulation, because of the overspreading of our rebellions, idolatries and spiritual adulteries (Rev 3:14-22).
Jesus said; I will destroy this people and make of Moses a great nation; and Moses mediated for the people to save them.
14:11 And the LORD said unto Moses, How long will this people provoke me? and how long will it be ere they believe me, for all the signs which I have shewed among them? 14:12 I will smite them with the pestilence, and disinherit them, and will make of thee a greater nation and mightier than they.
14:13 And Moses said unto the LORD, Then the Egyptians shall hear it, (for thou broughtest up this people in thy might from among them;) 14:14 And they will tell it to the inhabitants of this land: for they have heard that thou LORD art among this people, that thou LORD art seen face to face, and that thy cloud standeth over them, and that thou goest before them, by day time in a pillar of a cloud, and in a pillar of fire by night.
14:15 Now if thou shalt kill all this people as one man, then the nations which have heard the fame of thee will speak, saying, 14:16 Because the LORD was not able to bring this people into the land which he sware unto them, therefore he hath slain them in the wilderness.
When most of us are given over to great affliction of the flesh, it is so that the spirit can be saved; and that the Almighty may be glorified.
Today’s spiritual Ekklesia justifies itself and has fallen into the depths of a complete unwillingness to repent, because of this we now face eternal death for our willingness to obey men [commit idolatry] above the Word of God.
Today’s spiritual Ekklesia call the imaginations of their leaders good; and they reject any zeal to live by every Word of God! We do indeed make a mockery of Jesus Christ by rejecting faithfulness and Christ-like zeal to live by God’s Word, and we put Jesus Christ to an open shame by claiming to be his while having no zeal for his Word.
Indeed we are in greater danger of the judgment than the Pharisees were, for we claim to have the Spirit of God and yet we reject any zeal for God’s Word for our own ways; while they did not have God’s Spirit. They had their excuse, but where is the cloak for our sin ?
Hebrews 6:4 For it is impossible for those who were once enlightened, and have tasted of the heavenly gift, and were made partakers of the Holy Ghost, 6:5 And have tasted the good word of God, and the powers of the world to come, 6:6 If they shall fall away, to renew them again unto repentance; seeing they crucify to themselves the Son of God afresh, and put him to an open shame.
By bringing the Ekklesia to repentance God will save us; and God will be glorified in his wisdom that he is able to do his will; for nothing is beyond his might!
Numbers 14:17 And now, I beseech thee, let the power of my LORD be great, according as thou hast spoken, saying, 14:18 The LORD is longsuffering, and of great mercy, forgiving iniquity and transgression, and by no means clearing the guilty, visiting the iniquity of the fathers upon the children unto the third and fourth generation. 14:19 Pardon, I beseech thee, the iniquity of this people according unto the greatness of thy mercy, and as thou hast forgiven this people, from Egypt even until now.
14:20 And the LORD said, I have pardoned according to thy word: 14:21 But as truly as I live, all the earth shall be filled with the glory of the LORD.
Christ then proclaims that only those who have been zealously faithful to him may enter the promised land. The same is true of that spiritual Promised Land of eternal life!
14:22 Because all those men which have seen my glory, and my miracles, which I did in Egypt and in the wilderness, and have tempted me now these ten times, and have not hearkened to my voice; 14:23 Surely they shall not see the land which I sware unto their fathers, neither shall any of them that provoked me see it: 14:24 But my servant Caleb, because he had another spirit with him, and hath followed me fully, him will I bring into the land whereinto he went; and his seed shall possess it.
The people are commanded to flee the area, because the enemy is gathering to resist them.
14:25 (Now the Amalekites and the Canaanites dwelt in the valley.) Tomorrow turn you, and get you into the wilderness by the way of the Red sea.
Our Lord is also losing patience with our idolatry and sin (Rev 3:15).
14:26 And the LORD spake unto Moses and unto Aaron, saying, 14:27 How long shall I bear with this evil congregation, which murmur against me? I have heard the murmurings of the children of Israel, which they murmur against me.
Except for the two faithful, all physical Israel was prevented from entering the physical promised land for their rebellion and false words. Again, this is a lesson for us; that only the faithful to follow and live by every Word of God, can inherit the spiritual Promised Land of eternal life.
Just as physical Israel died in the wilderness all spiritual Israel who turns back from their task of overcoming, and turns away from any zeal to live by every Word of God, shall die in a wilderness of affliction; in the hope that by afflicting the flesh we might repent and our spirits might be saved
14:28 Say unto them, As truly as I live, saith the LORD, as ye have spoken in mine ears, so will I do to you: 14:29 Your carcases shall fall in this wilderness; and all that were numbered of you, according to your whole number, from twenty years old and upward which have murmured against me. 14:30 Doubtless ye shall not come into the land, concerning which I sware to make you dwell therein, save Caleb the son of Jephunneh, and Joshua the son of Nun.
Only the children of those people could enter the physical promised land. Spiritually only these who are humble and teachable and run to follow and live by the Word of God their Father in heaven, may enter the spiritual Promised Land of eternal life.
Matthew 18:2 And Jesus called a little child unto him, and set him in the midst of them, 18:3 And said, Verily I say unto you, Except ye be converted, and become as little children, ye shall not enter into the kingdom of heaven. 18:4 Whosoever therefore shall humble himself as this little child, the same is greatest in the kingdom of heaven.
Numbers 14:31 But your little ones, which ye said should be a prey, them will I bring in, and they shall know the land which ye have despised.
14:32 But as for you, your carcases, they shall fall in this wilderness. 14:33 And your children shall wander in the wilderness forty years, and bear your whoredoms, until your carcases be wasted in the wilderness. 14:34 After the number of the days in which ye searched the land, even forty days, each day for a year, shall ye bear your iniquities, even forty years, and ye shall know my breach of promise. 14:35 I the LORD have said, I will surely do it unto all this evil congregation, that are gathered together against me: in this wilderness they shall be consumed, and there they shall die.
Many then died immediately by a plague from God
14:36 And the men, which Moses sent to search the land, who returned, and made all the congregation to murmur against him, by bringing up a slander upon the land, 14:37 Even those men that did bring up the evil report upon the land, died by the plague before the LORD.
14:38 But Joshua the son of Nun, and Caleb the son of Jephunneh, which were of the men that went to search the land, lived still.
14:39 And Moses told these sayings unto all the children of Israel: and the people mourned greatly.
The people did not understand and repenting for not entering the land, they then committed the same sin of rebellion and refusal to accept and obey the Word of God, by trying to take the land contrary to God’s Word by their own efforts.
14:40 And they rose up early in the morning, and gat them up into the top of the mountain, saying, Lo, we be here, and will go up unto the place which the LORD hath promised: for we have sinned.
Moses warns them
14:41 And Moses said, Wherefore now do ye transgress the commandment of the LORD? but it shall not prosper. 14:42 Go not up, for the LORD is not among you; that ye be not smitten before your enemies. 14:43 For the Amalekites and the Canaanites are there before you, and ye shall fall by the sword: because ye are turned away from the LORD, therefore the LORD will not be with you.
Moses refused to let the Ark be moved to go with those rebellious people, and God allowed the people to be defeated for their rebellion against him. Just as God would not be with those who rebelled against his Word in ancient times, today God will not be with anyone who will not live by every Word of God.
14:44 But they presumed to go up unto the hill top: nevertheless the ark of the covenant of the LORD, and Moses, departed not out of the camp. 14:45 Then the Amalekites came down, and the Canaanites which dwelt in that hill, and smote them, and discomfited them, even unto Hormah.
