Numbers 24:1 And when Balaam saw that it pleased the LORD to bless Israel, he went not, as at other times, to seek for enchantments, but he set his face toward the wilderness.
God then inspired Balaam by God’s Spirit to prophesy again concerning Israel
24:2 And Balaam lifted up his eyes, and he saw Israel abiding in his tents according to their tribes; and the spirit of God came upon him.
Balaam in a trance from God delivers a blessing and a prophecy of Israel
24:3 And he took up his parable, and said, Balaam the son of Beor hath said, and the man whose eyes are open hath said: 24:4 He hath said, which heard the words of God, which saw the vision of the Almighty, falling into a trance, but having his eyes open:
This is a prophecy of physical Israel at that time, about entering Canaan and possessing the land; and is a prophecy of millennial physical Israel being the head of all nations; and spiritual Israel overcoming all through zeal to live by every Word of God and receiving the Promised Land of eternal life.
24:5 How goodly are thy tents, O Jacob, and thy tabernacles, O Israel! 24:6 As the valleys are they spread forth, as gardens by the river’s side, as the trees of lign aloes which the LORD hath planted, and as cedar trees beside the waters.
24:7 He shall pour the water out of his buckets, and his seed shall be in many waters, and his king shall be higher than Agag, and his kingdom shall be exalted.
24:8 God brought him forth out of Egypt; he hath as it were the strength of an unicorn: he shall eat up the nations his enemies, and shall break their bones, and pierce them through with his arrows.
24:9 He couched, he lay down as a lion, and as a great lion: who shall stir him up? Blessed is he that blesseth thee, and cursed is he that curseth thee.
The king is furious at Balaam
24:10 And Balak’s anger was kindled against Balaam, and he smote his hands together: and Balak said unto Balaam, I called thee to curse mine enemies, and, behold, thou hast altogether blessed them these three times. 24:11 Therefore now flee thou to thy place: I thought to promote thee unto great honour; but, lo, the LORD hath kept thee back from honour.
24:12 And Balaam said unto Balak, Spake I not also to thy messengers which thou sentest unto me, saying, 24:13 If Balak would give me his house full of silver and gold, I cannot go beyond the commandment of the LORD, to do either good or bad of mine own mind; but what the LORD saith, that will I speak?
Another prophecy of the latter days
24:14 And now, behold, I go unto my people: come therefore, and I will advertise thee what this people shall do to thy people in the latter days.
24:15 And he took up his parable, and said, Balaam the son of Beor hath said, and the man whose eyes are open hath said: 24:16 He hath said, which heard the words of God, and knew the knowledge of the most High, which saw the vision of the Almighty, falling into a trance, but having his eyes open:
Balaam prophesies of the Millennial coming of Jesus Christ; and the destruction of the nations which had destroyed end time physical Israel. For Psalm 83 shows us that the nations of the Middle East shall ally themselves with the king of the North to defeat and to occupy Jerusalem and Judea until the armies of the Far East come to gather at Jerusalem, and Messiah comes with all his chosen to take rule over the whole earth.
24:17 I shall see him, but not now: I shall behold him, but not nigh [in Balaam’s day the coming of Messiah was far off] : there shall come a Star out of Jacob, and a Sceptre shall rise out of Israel, and shall smite the corners of Moab, and destroy all the children of Sheth.
24:18 And Edom [Turkey] shall be a possession, Seir [Turkey] also shall be a possession for his enemies; and Israel shall do valiantly.
24:19 Out of Jacob shall come he that shall have dominion, and shall destroy him that remaineth of the city.
24:20 And when he looked on Amalek, he took up his parable, and said, Amalek was the first of the nations; but his latter end shall be that he perish for ever.
24:21 And he looked on the Kenites, and took up his parable, and said, Strong is thy dwellingplace, and thou puttest thy nest in a rock. 24:22 Nevertheless the Kenite shall be wasted, until Asshur shall carry thee away captive.
24:23 And he took up his parable, and said, Alas, who shall live when God doeth this! 24:24 And ships shall come from the coast of Chittim, and shall afflict Asshur, and shall afflict Eber, and he also shall perish for ever.
24:25 And Balaam rose up, and went and returned to his place: and Balak also went his way.
Here we find that Balaam had advised king Balak that since Christ would not curse Israel, they could cause Israel to bring a curse upon themselves by enticing them into sinning against the commandments of God. This will become clear as we cover the story further.
This is exactly how Satan works. He uses a combination of pressure and persecution, together with enticements and temptations to sin. We must remember Satan’s methods in our personal lives and the leaders and brethren should remember these things and be ever alert to remain steadfastly grounded on the whole word of God.
Numbers 25:1 And Israel abode in Shittim [the acacia woods], and the people began to commit whoredom with the daughters of Moab.
The people of Moab sent out the willing among their women to entice Israel to sin; offering themselves to fornicate and then inviting those Israelites they came in contact with to come to the sacrifices and Feasts of their gods. Today very many attend Christmas and other heathen feasts in rebellion against the Word of God; who commands us NOT to participate in the sins of others.
1 Timothy 5:22 . . . neither be partaker of other men’s sins: keep thyself pure.
Numbers 25:2 And they called the people unto the sacrifices of their gods: and the people did eat, and bowed down to their gods.
Baalpeor: Lord of the opening, a god of the Moabites (Num. 25:3; 31:16; Josh. 22:17), worshipped by indiscriminate sexual orgies. So called from the mountain pass of Mount Peor, where this worship was celebrated, the Baal [the lord or god] of Mount Peor. The Israelites fell into the worship of this idol (Num. 25:3, 5, 18; Deut. 4:3; Ps. 106:28; Hos. 9:10).
Peor the “opening” was not some sexual thing as some suggest, instead it referred to a mountain pass on the border.
25:3 And Israel joined himself unto Baalpeor: and the anger of the LORD was kindled against Israel.
Jesus Christ the jealous Husband, commands to slay all the leaders of the people who allowed this apostasy from the commandments of God.
And some in the Ekklesia dare to claim that Jesus will overlook sin so they can go ahead and compromise with God’s commandments and tolerate diversity of doctrine [false teachings that turn us away from the truth and of the Word of God] with impunity!
No, Jesus Christ is not the pathetic man who would permit his espoused wife to commit spiritual adultery and reject zeal for HIM, in favor of zeal for others.
Exodus 34:13 But ye shall destroy their altars, break their images, and cut down their groves: 34:14 For thou shalt worship no other god: for the Lord, whose name is Jealous, is a jealous God:
Brethren, we are to destroy every idols of organizations and men; every false doctrine, false teaching and false way; to live by every Word of God! We are NOT to tolerate and overlook sin, nor are we to fail to strongly rebuke the sin that brings sorrow and death; and neither will Jesus Christ!
Deuteronomy 6:13 Thou shalt fear the Lord thy God, and serve him, and shalt swear by his name. 6:14 Ye shall not go after other gods, of the gods of the people which are round about you;
6:15 (For the Lord thy God is a jealous God among you) lest the anger of the Lord thy God be kindled against thee, and destroy thee from off the face of the earth. 6:16 Ye shall not tempt the Lord your God, as ye tempted him in Massah.
6:17 Ye shall diligently keep the commandments of the Lord your God, and his testimonies, and his statutes, which he hath commanded thee.
6:18 And thou shalt do that which is right and good in the sight of the Lord: that it may be well with thee, and that thou mayest go in and possess the good land which the Lord sware unto thy fathers.
We are commanded by Jesus Christ to be strong, intense and zealous, to destroy every false way and to be passionately committed to live by every Word of God.
God knows and will afflict those who commit spiritual adultery by tolerating and following false teachings, and by exalting the word of men above the Word of God.
Jesus Christ knows those who have a false feigned love for him and will not keep God’s Word in passionate Christ-like zeal; and he will NOT close his eyes to our sins.
Christ knows those who are zealous and absolutely faithful to HIM and GOD’S WORD, and he will care for them and defend them like the jealous God he is. He calls us to repent of following a false Christ who tolerates and overlooks the spiritual adultery of sin against HIM!
Nahum 1:1 The burden of Nineveh. The book of the vision of Nahum the Elkoshite.
1:2 God is jealous, and the Lord revengeth; the Lord revengeth, and is furious; the Lord will take vengeance on his adversaries [those who break his commandments and go contrary to his word], and he reserveth wrath for his enemies [who teach false doctrine and a false Christ of tolerance for sin].
The men who teach a false, tolerant of sin, evangelical love love Christ, are the enemies of the true Jesus Christ. Jesus Christ will NOT tolerate sin and will judge every person by their works according to the Word of God! He will not at all acquit the wicked and n or will he apply his sacrifice to the unrepentant, or the repentant in name only.
1:3 The Lord is slow to anger, and great in power, and will not at all acquit the wicked: the Lord hath his way in the whirlwind and in the storm, and the clouds are the dust of his feet.
Jesus Christ is Mighty to Save his faithful beloved, who follow the Lamb withersoever he goeth; and is Mighty to Destroy the unrepentant sinful.
1:4 He rebuketh the sea, and maketh it dry, and drieth up all the rivers: Bashan languisheth, and Carmel, and the flower of Lebanon languisheth. 1:5 The mountains quake at him, and the hills melt, and the earth is burned at his presence, yea, the world, and all that dwell therein. 1:6 Who can stand before his indignation? and who can abide in the fierceness of his anger? his fury is poured out like fire, and the rocks are thrown down by him.
Jesus Christ is also Strong to Save those who are faithful and diligent to learn and keep the whole Word of God, who love Christ and God the Father enough to DO what they say and to internalize the very nature of God by learning and living by every Word of God without any compromise or turning to the left or to the right.
Let us flee temptation, and stand fast in trials; let always take refuge in the arms of our Mighty One!
1:7 The Lord is good, a strong hold in the day of trouble; and he knoweth them that trust in him.
Christ commands Moses to tell the leaders of the people to slay the wicked who fell into idolatry. The Ekklesia today is full of idolatry and spiritual adultery and is now facing the same kind of powerful affliction and correction, as they will soon be spewed out of the body of Christ, the Ekklesia [which was typified by physical Israel] into great tribulation.
Numbers 25:4 And the LORD said unto Moses, Take all the heads [leaders] of the people, and hang them up before the LORD against the sun, that the fierce anger of the LORD may be turned away from Israel. 25:5 And Moses said unto the judges of Israel, Slay ye every one his men that were joined unto Baalpeor.
Then a man brought in a woman of Midian, openly before those who were lamenting the sin and the killing of the people who had sinned with the idols of Moab.
This is in type done today, as many COG leaders openly commit spiritual adultery by turning away from any zeal for the Word of God in the sight of the whole Ekklesia.
25:6 And, behold, one of the children of Israel came and brought unto his brethren a Midianitish woman in the sight of Moses, and in the sight of all the congregation of the children of Israel, who were weeping before the door of the tabernacle of the congregation.
Remember that they had been commanded by God to destroy the idolaters who had gone to the feasts of Baalpeor of Moab in rebellion against the Word of God.
Now here was a sinner of Israel who was openly fornicating with a woman of Midian; and Phinehas the priest, full of zeal for God, acted.
25:7 And when Phinehas, the son of Eleazar, the son of Aaron the priest, saw it, he rose up from among the congregation, and took a javelin in his hand; 25:8 And he went after the man of Israel into the tent, and thrust both of them through, the man of Israel, and the woman through her belly. So the plague was stayed from the children of Israel.
25:9 And those that died in the plague were twenty and four thousand.
Phinehas the zealous for Jesus Christ and the Word of God is granted an exceptional blessing; while those who justified attending pagan feasts and following pagan ways to commit spiritual adultery against their Husband were destroyed; as those who do the same sin today in following the idols of men and organizations, will also be afflicted in this latter day.
Today, those who take a stand against the general overwhelming idolatry and spiritual adultery in the Ekklesia are latter day Phinehas’ who will receive an everlasting spiritual priesthood.
25:10 And the LORD spake unto Moses, saying, 25:11 Phinehas, the son of Eleazar, the son of Aaron the priest, hath turned my wrath away from the children of Israel, while he was zealous for my sake among them, that I consumed not the children of Israel in my jealousy.
This matter of Phinehas was recorded for our instruction. If we are zealous for the Word of God to learn it and to keep it; we shall also receive an everlasting priesthood of eternal life as priests and kings of our God, in the resurrection to spirit.
25:12 Wherefore say, Behold, I give unto him my covenant of peace: 25:13 And he shall have it, and his seed after him, even the covenant of an everlasting priesthood; because he was zealous for his God, and made an atonement for the children of Israel.
The names of the wicked are also recorded. Those who compromise with the Word of God and follow men and organizations in idolatry; will be corrected in great tribulation, and if they will still not repent after exhausting all opportunity, will be destroyed in the lake of fire and held in eternal contempt.
Daniel 12:2 And many of them that sleep in the dust of the earth shall awake, some to everlasting life, and some to shame and everlasting contempt.
Numbers 25:14 Now the name of the Israelite that was slain, even that was slain with the Midianitish woman, was Zimri, the son of Salu, a prince of a chief house among the Simeonites. 25:15 And the name of the Midianitish woman that was slain was Cozbi, the daughter of Zur; he was head over a people, and of a chief house in Midian.
Jesus Christ then commands Israel to attack and destroy Midian. It seems apparent that Moab was confederate with Midian in these things, but that God had other things in mind for Moab.
25:16 And the LORD spake unto Moses, saying, 25:17 Vex the Midianites, and smite them: 25:18 For they vex you with their wiles, wherewith they have beguiled you in the matter of Peor, and in the matter of Cozbi, the daughter of a prince of Midian, their sister, which was slain in the day of the plague for Peor’s sake.
At this point Moses covers other subjects and returns to the war against Midian in Chapter 31.
Christ commands Moses to count the army of Israel
Numbers 26:1 And it came to pass after the plague, that the LORD spake unto Moses and unto Eleazar the son of Aaron the priest, saying, 26:2 Take the sum of all the congregation of the children of Israel, from twenty years old and upward, throughout their fathers’ house, all that are able to go to war in Israel.
They are now camped in Midian by Moab on the east side of Jordan near Jericho. The army is being numbered and prepared to attack Midian [be God’s command in Chapter 25] for following the advice of Balaam and leading Israel into sin.
26:3 And Moses and Eleazar the priest spake with them in the plains of Moab by Jordan near Jericho, saying, 26:4 Take the sum of the people, from twenty years old and upward; as the LORD commanded Moses and the children of Israel, which went forth out of the land of Egypt.

An explanation of the family of Reuben in reference to Dathan and Abiram
26:8 And the sons of Pallu; Eliab. 26:9 And the sons of Eliab; Nemuel, and Dathan, and Abiram.
This is that Dathan and Abiram, which were famous in the congregation, who strove against Moses and against Aaron in the company of Korah, when they strove against the LORD: 26:10 And the earth opened her mouth, and swallowed them up together with Korah, when that company died, what time the fire devoured two hundred and fifty men: and they became a sign. 26:11 Notwithstanding the children of Korah died not.

They have been numbered by their families for the war and also so that lots can be cast in the names of the various families for the dividing of the land.
26:52 And the LORD spake unto Moses, saying, 26:53 Unto these the land shall be divided for an inheritance according to the number of names. 26:54 To many thou shalt give the more inheritance, and to few thou shalt give the less inheritance: to every one shall his inheritance be given according to those that were numbered of him.
Jesus Christ was to decide who had possession of each part of the promised land; and Jesus Christ will decide who occupies various offices in the Promised Land of eternity
Proverbs 16:33 The lot is cast into the lap; but the whole disposing thereof is of the Lord.
Numbers 26:55 Notwithstanding the land shall be divided by lot: according to the names of the tribes of their fathers they shall inherit. 26:56 According to the lot shall the possession thereof be divided between many and few.
Now comes the counting of the Levites.
26:57 And these are they that were numbered of the Levites after their families: of Gershon, the family of the Gershonites: of Kohath, the family of the Kohathites: of Merari, the family of the Merarites.
26:58 These are the families of the Levites: the family of the Libnites, the family of the Hebronites, the family of the Mahlites, the family of the Mushites, the family of the Korathites. And Kohath begat Amram.
Amram and Jochebed were born in Egypt of the family of Kohath the son of Levi, as descendants of Levi. The mother of Moses, Aaron and Miriam; is identified as Jochebed, and their father was Amram. Moses, Aaron and Miriam were Kohathites of Levi.
26:59 And the name of Amram’s wife was Jochebed, the daughter [descendent of] of Levi, whom her mother bare to Levi in Egypt: and she bare unto Amram Aaron and Moses, and Miriam their sister.
Aaron had four sons of which two died for placing strange fire on the altar of God
26:60 And unto Aaron was born Nadab, and Abihu, Eleazar, and Ithamar. 26:61 And Nadab and Abihu died, when they offered strange fire before the LORD.
26:62 And those that were numbered of them were twenty and three thousand, [23,000] all males from a month old and upward: for they were not numbered among the children of Israel, because there was no inheritance given them among the children of Israel.
26:63 These are they that were numbered by Moses and Eleazar the priest, who numbered the children of Israel in the plains of Moab by Jordan near Jericho.
ONLY Caleb, Joshua and Moses remained of Israel from forty years previous; and not one person remained of those who had refused to follow Christ into the promised land. And Moses was to die, also not being allowed to enter the land.
26:64 But among these there was not a man of them whom Moses and Aaron the priest numbered, when they numbered the children of Israel in the wilderness of Sinai. 26:65 For the LORD had said of them, They shall surely die in the wilderness. And there was not left a man of them, save Caleb the son of Jephunneh, and Joshua the son of Nun.
